In Celebration of Black History Month, Rachel and Laya from Origins Dermatology have keenly attended ‘BLACK PRAIRIES’ in Regina, an exhibition that honours over a century of Black/African-Canadian cultural production across the Prairies! Spanning the 1920s to today, it showcases powerful lens-based media, from William “Billy” Beal’s glass plate negatives of early 1900s homesteading life to archival photographs from the Frank Jamerson fonds, documenting the migration of Black communities to the Prairies. This exhibit celebrates the resilience, creativity, and history of Black communities in the region. At its core, it is a space for reflection, dialogue, and solidarity as we continue to foster diversity and uplift Black voices. Rachel is also very grateful for her Friends and Colleagues who are a part of this wonderful community!!!

Here at Origins Dermatology Centre we have quite an amazing team! 🥳🙌

Introducing Kristian Blind:

“Hello! My name is Kristian Blind I’m a registered nurse who received my education at the University of Saskatchewan in 2018. Since 2019 I have been working for my home communities in Southern Saskatchewan in the Touchwood File Hills under the Touchwood Agency Tribal Council as a Community Health Out-Reach Nurse. I enjoy doing Outreach work as it allows for diversity in my scope of practice, but I’m particularly interested in Skin and Wound Care. I was introduced to the field of dermatology back in 2019 working with Rachel Asiniwasis at one of our community clinics and I learnt so much from our interactions with patients about skin disorders. I found my formal education as a registered nurse did not adequately teach me about skin and skin disorders. I’m still learning about the field of dermatology and I’m working on a research project with Rachel called Reaching Out for Atopic Dermatitis (ROAD) in which we will help educate health professionals to optimize care for patients with AD by taking a proactive approach.
I have learnt so much since working on this research project and will continue my education through Western Canada as I relocate on coast.
In my spare time I enjoy buying and reading books 📚 , traveling, live music 🎶 , walks with my dog 🐶 , and catching up with friends and family.”

Dr. Asiniwasis is thankful for her experience in Athens at the Canvas for Life conference! Dermatology is advancing in an exciting and unprecedented new way that ultimately has potential to improve the lives of our patients who suffer from skin diseases. Rachel enjoys learning about the ancient histories of Athens including tales from the Acropolis. Her other favourite part was all the Greek cats! She wants to take them all home with her and spoil them rotten 😝🤣

Do you suffer from atopic dermatitis (often referred to as eczema), or psoriasis? If so, get a referral to us as we have a specialized focus in eczema and psoriasis at Origins Dermatology Centre, and are actively accepting referrals for these conditions.
Did you know that presentations may differ and be under-recognized in those with richly pigmented skin? We provide quality diagnostics and up-to-date management plans for those with all diverse skin tones!!

**We would like to thank Rachel’s friend and dad for being our models and giving permission to use these pictures on our Instagram! 😁

👋 “Hello” from Rachel, after a busy week at the Canadian Dermatology Association conference in Toronto, ON! Rachel is grateful for having opportunities to be a moderator, speaker, mentor and advisor at this conference. She also was featured on the honor roll of Women in Dermatology. Her best highlight was presenting alongside her friend and colleague, Dr. Li, from Vancouver on racial and ethnic skin barrier differences.
