It’s been a summer busy in the clinic. This week I have two 60 minute treatments and one 30 minute appointment still available, but it’s not too early to book next week’s appointment. If there is a specific day and time that works best for you it’s best to book your as far in advance as you can. When you’re under stress your sympathetic nervous system is engaged. How the sympathetic nervous system is designed to work is something happens the fight or flight response engages you do something about it (fight or run) and once it’s resolved your parasympathetic nervous system takes over and you’re able to rest and digest.

Here’s the thing this system works really well when our stress triggers were a mountain lion or a bear but with our modern day stressors for the most part there’s nothing to fight or run from.

When your boss gives you a tight deadline for a project at work, your kids forgot to tell you there diorama is due tomorrow, they haven’t started it and they need glue from the store or you’ve been so busy that you haven’t had a chance to do laundry in over a week your nervous system’s response is the same as if that mountain lion is in front of you.

It takes a lot of resources to fight off a mountain lion and if the body is trying to keep you alive for the next five minutes it’s not worried about keeping you alive for the next five years, and when there’s nothing to fight or run from that rest and digest response isn’t naturally triggered, and being in a prolonged stressed state can lead to burnout.

Craniosacral therapy uses gentle pressure to relieve restrictions in the fascia of the nervous but it also takes you out of the fight or flight response in a different way from massage. By bringing a feeling of safety to the body all those resources that were allocated to fighting imaginary bears and use them to heal the body.
