💥5️⃣YEARS💥
•••
August 4, 2025 looks a very different world than August 4, 2020 did!! And for so many reasons.

That was day 1 of my chiropractic career and what an odd and uncertain entry it was into the profession.

Covid presented interesting and educational challenges that we hadn’t anticipated…

…and now, 5 years later, life has dealt highs and lows we never could have imagined.

And through it all, there have been people come and people go, there have been arrivals and departures for reasons, seasons, and lifetimes.
•••
There has been doubt. Good lord has there been doubt.
There has been confusion and frustration and confidence and elation.
•••
And tomorrow as we begin to settle into year 6, I can be nothing but grateful for the people I get to work beside and joke with every day. Grateful for the flexibility and grace that my profession affords me to take care of me and our new normal.
•••
And forever grateful to my incredible patients for trusting me with their care, for confiding in me their fears and troubles, and for having the faith that I will get them where they need to be.
•••
I am also humbled each day with the compassion and understanding my patients have shown in the last several months after our lives took a violent turn. I will never be able to convey the gratitude I feel for such special human beings.
•••
Looks a little different than day 1.
I didn’t know just how much would change.
But it’s been 5 great years and I love it…

…just the same.

With the utmost gratitude and humility, I would like to extend my thanks to my patients and coworkers for their patience and flexibility over the passed several weeks after the sudden and tragic death of my younger sister.

It cannot be overstated just how grateful I have been to have patients and a work family so supportive as my wife and I navigate not only this tragedy, but also the transition into permanent guardianship of our 6 year old niece.
Being able to exercise some flexibility in my schedule while she regulates and settles into her new normal is a privilege I can only have because of the tremendous grace shown to me by all of you.

From the absolute bottom of my heart, I thank you, now, and moving forward, for your patience and kindness.

With sincere gratitude,
Dr. Kara Haus & Family

This is a conversation I have with my patients on a regular basis.

Medical oppression is rampant and we don’t even realize it. Most research and development regarding medicine and healthcare is done with “Reference Man” in mind.
He is a white, cis man, 155lbs, 5’10” tall, and as average as it gets.

Until the late 90s, he was all we went on. And then we added what could be referred to as “Reference woman” and called it good.

However, it’s not. Because we still have an extreme gap in research when it comes to the average cis white woman in medicine.

Now imagine literally any other intersection of demographic.

Black trans woman.
Pregnant Hispanic woman.
Menopausal woman with Lupus.
Trans man with ovarian cancer.

Zero research on them.

DEI isn’t a game. It’s life saving.

In so many ways.

~1️⃣ Year of an incredible work life!!

Yesterday marked my one year anniversary at 🌳 and there aren’t many words worthy of describing just how amazing it has been.

Being able to work with these incredible people every day has made me fall in love with my craft once again.
The environment, the vibe, the patients….I cannot describe how awesome it is to head to the office each day knowing that the energy is going to be something that will always put a smile on my face.

It cannot be understated how important an owner like Shalla Riemer is in building a wellness community that puts collaboration over competition. Shalla goes to the end of the earth for her providers to ensure we have what we need every day. She understands that looking after her people is paramount in her people going above and beyond for our patients.
There are few people on earth who can build such a healthy and inclusive space that runs like a well-oiled machine everyday, while still being someone who loves to stay out way too late shoving in pizza and beer after a ball game.
The girl invented ‘work hard, play hard!’

I can’t wait to see what year 2 has in store.

I will be announcing some schedule changes in an effort to serve my patients the best I can in the most effective, caring, and time sensitive way possible.

I am so proud to be part of the Healthy Roots team!!
I can’t wait to get to know 2025 with you!

Cheers,
Dr. H. ✌🏽🌱

“Hi, Kara, your donor profile shows a potential stem cell match for a patient in need!!”

Okay! When and where!!

I signed up with 🩸 like 14 years ago. When a prominent hockey player my age was diagnosed with while on a hockey scholarship playing for the team.

Mandi Schwartz was and still is one of the most kind and selfless humans I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. A person could get cavities chatting with her, that’s how sweet she was.
Her sweetness, however, turned to pure talent and very little mercy between the whistles. And as a goalie who had the extreme misfortune of playing against her, calling her sweet further shows how her personality impacted literally everyone she ever engaged with.

Even those of us she made look silly between the pipes. ☺️🚨

So today, sitting at Canadian Blood Services, I thought about her for a quick moment and realized…today…I’m sitting in here with the needle in my arm today….of all days.

April 3rd, 2024…

13 years exactly since Mandi lost her life, and her battle, to , and subsequently left a legacy that has allowed countless others to win their own.

Here’s hoping🧬🩸
