"Don't lift anything over 10 lbs and come back if you develop a fever. Good luck."
During a cesarean birth the surgeon has to cut through SEVEN different tissue layers to reach your baby! Including muscle.. and then you're on your way home with a new being to care for, vague instructions for recovery (maybe self-massage for once the incision is healed, if you're lucky) and probably a handful of questions. 🤔
Why is my scar tender to touch even though it looks healed?
Is this spot always going to feel numb?
Why does my low back hurt now?
Will my scar ever be less visible?
Don't hinge your recovery on rest and good luck alone. Although, we can't work directly at your incision site immediately after surgery, we can do lots for the surrounding tissues! Gentle massage can assist lymph flow and improve circulation to the area, which reduces swelling and feeds the damaged tissues the nutrients they need to rebuild!
But, even an old scar can learn new tricks. Massage therapy can soften and mobilize scar tissue, giving you a feeling of movement and freedom back! (It might surprise you how far that tension has traveled within your body.)
