I am excited to share that I am growing my service area! I am now registered in SK and AB. 🎉

I’ve wanted to do this for a while but recently decided to go for it!

Why register in Alberta?

I have always wanted to provide accessible counselling to folks from all over. There is a need for counselling everywhere.

And now I can provide services to my clients who have moved or will be moving to Alberta!

My current clients are my priority. I want to make sure sessions are accessible in short(ish) notice (when life hits hard) and there are dates and times available that fit what you need!

I’m excited for the upcoming year and to continue to provide services in SK and to build some new relationships too!

How to navigate your way through the hard stuff during the holidays! ☃️

PART TWO: Financial stress and budget conversations! 💸

The holidays season is known to be one of the most financially stressful times of the year. Why? Expectations. Real or perceived.

How do we navigate through these conversations around budgets for gifts, food, and trips?

Start by asking yourself what is realistic for yourself? Are you focused on paying off debt? Are you a student? Are you saving for other things?

How do you want to feel in January when the holidays are over?

It’s not selfish to put yourself first and make sure you’re doing what you need to. YES you can go through the holiday season and NOT buy gifts and still be a great friend and family member.

Secondly, just ask family or your significant other what their expectation is of you. Use that opportunity to negotiate on what is realistic for you.

The holiday season is not for showing your love through gifts and money. Having conversations around this can help.

What are your values? How can you align with those?

What other more important ways can you show love to your family?

Inexpensive thoughtful ideas:

🎁 Making homemade baking tins (ask what their favourite childhood dessert/cookie was)

How to navigate your way through the hard stuff during the holidays! ☃️

PART ONE: Overstimulation during the holidays with always having to be “on” around lots of people.

You know yourself well enough that being around lots of people and feeling the need to be “on” is exhausting for you. It can be straight up overwhelming at times.

Gently ask yourself: who am I showing up as?

Who is the most authentic version of me?

When I feel obligated or forced to be “on”, do I really feel aligned and comfortable with myself?

Am I pushing myself to be seen in certain way by others? Why?

Am I worried if I’m not “on” people will think somethings wrong with me? How will I navigate that if that’s the case?

Being authentic and grounded brings more balance and sustainability.

Take breaks to turn your brain off for a few minutes. Run your hands under cold water and take 3 big breaths.

Set a time limit on how long you’re willing to stay (I know, the expectations are that you stay for 12 hours or the whole night) but you get to decide what would feel good for you and set the expectation in advance with your family.

🚫Myth: if I accept it that means I like what happened or what I’m feeling.

✅Truth: Acceptance doesn’t mean you love or hate something.

🚫Myth: if I accept it then I’m giving in.

✅Truth: Acceptance actually helps us move through hard feelings, thoughts, and events. If we don’t accept it we stay stuck.

🚫Myth: my feelings will get harder if I acknowledge and accept them

✅Truth: if we accept our feelings such as anger, shame, or disappointment we can move forward and embrace our feelings in a non-judgmental and compassionate way.

Counselling sessions from anywhere! 👩‍💻

It’s important to have access to quality (and confidential) session wherever you are.

Whether you’re rural, traveling, on a business trip, or you just enjoy the comfort of your home, counselling is at your fingertips!

Here are my thoughts after reflecting on this past weekend 🍂

My supports and clients make it possible for me to live such a beautiful life full of possibilities, laughter, and connection.

I made the decision to go to school for social work when I was 17 because I have always had a need to be apart of deep meaningful conversation and healing. I carry a passion for creating relationships. This is a part of who I am and what drives me.

I believe I have the best job in the world.

I am thankful for this.

I have some of the funniest and most supportive family I could ask for. They give me space to be authentic and weird.

I am thankful for this.

My therapist has literally changed my life and has probably saved my relationship a time or two. She’s one of the coolest people I know!

I am thankful for this.

I get to flow through my day. I get to cry and belly laugh. I get to feel the raw emotions and pain. I get to be present and mindful. I get to be authentic and real.

I am thankful for this.

Thank you to my supports for standing by me and showering me with love.

Thank you to my clients for allowing me to do this work. It is an honour to be apart of your journey!

It is important for counsellors and community members to be informed of the impact language can have on individuals!

Microaggressions can be invalidating, hurtful, and damaging to confidence.

As a LGBTQIA+ affirming therapist I am always striving to maintain competency and awareness in and out of sessions to provide a safe space.

If we ever need to be corrected we can say “I hear you, now I can do better” instead of “you know what I meant.”

No one is perfect, but we can be open and learn 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️
