The current climate of the 21st century is complex, anxiety ridden, and honestly… chaotic.

To survive, counsellors need a place where they can be themselves, feel confident in the work they do, self-reflect, and feel supported in their emotionally demanding role as a professional.

In my practice, I deeply needed a place where I felt I could make mistakes, build my competence, be myself authentic self, and not be judged.

I found that in supervision.

It’s helped me build confidence in myself which in turn supports the client.

So now I offer a space to you, that centres around connection, authenticity, vulnerability, curiosity over judgement, where mistakes are expected and growth is shared.

I’m officially a cowgirl 🤠 but the only horse I have is miniature and blind so I’m not gunna be riding around with a lasso anytime soon.

A couple weekends ago we brought home our first herd of cows.

The farm, and my partner, push me to grow year after year. It shows me to be grateful, loving of all creatures, and hardworking.

It also pushes me to have boundaries, to rest, and to be patient with progress and with myself.

Struggling to prioritize your mental health and self-care?

I’m right there with you.

For years, I put self-care at the bottom of the list — after housework, to-do lists, and way too much scrolling. If I’m honest, part of it was that self-care felt… boring or hard to achieve. There was little instant reward or gratification, so it was easy to make excuses and put it off.

My thought was: “Well, I’m not having a mental breakdown *yet*, so I’m fine.”

Getting started is hard. Staying consistent is even harder.

Here’s what actually helped me:

• Naming the avoidance out loud. I started voicing my excuses and resistance to my counsellor. Saying it out loud and receiving validation for the constant pressure to be productive, the overwhelm, the shutdown — helped me get to the why behind avoiding self-care.

• Letting go of all-or-nothing thinking. Self-care doesn’t have to be perfect or long. I can do small doses. If I stop enjoying it, I can stop and try something else.

• Using self-hypnosis. This one surprised me. It made my body feel like butter melting into the bed, yes, literally like butter. It was the first time that doing relaxation techniques on my own gave me an instant reward, and for once, I actually wanted to come back to it.

• Booking appointments. Counselling, hypnosis, reiki, acupuncture, massage, osteopathy, dietitian, chiro — all of them are scheduled. That matters. It’s intentionally carved-out time to prioritize mental health.

Everyone’s self care looks different. There is no one size fits all.

We aren’t meant to do this alone. We need a village to support us so we can learn how to support ourselves.

I am excited to share that I am growing my service area! I am now registered in SK and AB. 🎉

I’ve wanted to do this for a while but recently decided to go for it!

Why register in Alberta?

I have always wanted to provide accessible counselling to folks from all over. There is a need for counselling everywhere.

And now I can provide services to my clients who have moved or will be moving to Alberta!

My current clients are my priority. I want to make sure sessions are accessible in short(ish) notice (when life hits hard) and there are dates and times available that fit what you need!

I’m excited for the upcoming year and to continue to provide services in SK and to build some new relationships too!

How to navigate your way through the hard stuff during the holidays! ☃️

PART TWO: Financial stress and budget conversations! 💸

The holidays season is known to be one of the most financially stressful times of the year. Why? Expectations. Real or perceived.

How do we navigate through these conversations around budgets for gifts, food, and trips?

Start by asking yourself what is realistic for yourself? Are you focused on paying off debt? Are you a student? Are you saving for other things?

How do you want to feel in January when the holidays are over?

It’s not selfish to put yourself first and make sure you’re doing what you need to. YES you can go through the holiday season and NOT buy gifts and still be a great friend and family member.

Secondly, just ask family or your significant other what their expectation is of you. Use that opportunity to negotiate on what is realistic for you.

The holiday season is not for showing your love through gifts and money. Having conversations around this can help.

What are your values? How can you align with those?

What other more important ways can you show love to your family?

Inexpensive thoughtful ideas:

How to navigate your way through the hard stuff during the holidays! ☃️

PART ONE: Overstimulation during the holidays with always having to be “on” around lots of people.

You know yourself well enough that being around lots of people and feeling the need to be “on” is exhausting for you. It can be straight up overwhelming at times.

Gently ask yourself: who am I showing up as?

Who is the most authentic version of me?

When I feel obligated or forced to be “on”, do I really feel aligned and comfortable with myself?

Am I pushing myself to be seen in certain way by others? Why?

Am I worried if I’m not “on” people will think somethings wrong with me? How will I navigate that if that’s the case?

Being authentic and grounded brings more balance and sustainability.

Take breaks to turn your brain off for a few minutes. Run your hands under cold water and take 3 big breaths.

Set a time limit on how long you’re willing to stay (I know, the expectations are that you stay for 12 hours or the whole night) but you get to decide what would feel good for you and set the expectation in advance with your family.
