🧠 MS Research Study – Your Voice Matters!

First Steps Wellness Centre is helping spread the word about a national Multiple Sclerosis research study led by Nova Scotia Health and funded by MS Canada.

📋 The study is looking to better understand the diversity, health status, and access to MS care across Canada. If you have MS, you're invited to take part in a short, anonymous online survey (20–30 min).

Your experience could help shape future MS care and research!

🗓 Survey open until September 30, 2025

We’re proud to recognize Dr. Cameron Mang, who last year officially joined First Steps Wellness Centre as our Scientific Adviser—a volunteer position that reflects his commitment to advancing neurorehabilitation through research and collaboration. 🧠💡

Dr. Mang is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Kinesiology & Health Studies at the University of Regina, and a longtime supporter of our mission at FSWC. We’re fortunate to work closely with him on a variety of initiatives, including currently serving as a site for his research study on exercise and central nervous system function in individuals with MS.

Just a few weeks ago, Dr. Mang joined us for a staff meeting to share exciting new research ideas and gather input from our team. These ongoing conversations help bridge the gap between clinical practice and research.

🇧🇷➡️🇨🇦 Meet Maria, a resident physiotherapist from Brazil (isdnarede) who came all the way to Canada to spend three weeks at First Steps Wellness Centre as part of her residency program — all to learn more about Activity-Based Therapy (ABT)!

During her time here, Maria jumped into everything FSWC has to offer, from hands-on sessions to observing our programs in action. She also had the chance to connect with our broader rehab and para sport community here in Regina:

✨ A big thank you to Saskatchewan Wheelchair Sports for inviting her to a para sport demonstration event
✨ To Jess from URO Medical, for showing her around Wascana Rehab
✨ And to Dr. Cameron Mang at the University of Regina, who gave her a tour and shared his current research into neurorehabilitation and motor learning

Maria even got out on the water at a Para Canoe/Kayak Try-It Night at Wascana Lake!

We’re so glad Maria chose to spend part of her learning journey with us. We hope the experience gave her new insight, ideas, and inspiration to take back to her practice in Brazil!

Some of our clients had the chance to get out on the water last night at a “Try It” Para Canoe/Kayak Day hosted by the Wascana Racing Canoe Club at Wascana Lake! 🛶

It was a great opportunity to try something new, enjoy the outdoors, and connect with the local para sport community. Big thanks to WRCC for hosting such an inclusive and welcoming event!

What motivates you to move? 💭💪

Movement looks different for everyone—and so do the reasons behind it.

Maybe it’s the freedom you feel when your body is in motion.
Maybe it’s the goal you’re working toward.
Maybe it’s the community around you, cheering you on.
Maybe it’s just because it feels good to move—in whatever way you can.

At First Steps, we see motivation in many forms every day. From relearning skills to building strength to celebrating small wins, each step is a powerful reminder of what’s possible.

✨ So we’re asking: What motivates YOU to move?
