Squats! 1️⃣ Traditional squats - focus on keeping your feet should width apart and knees over your toes. Traditional squats will target your quads. 2️⃣ Sumo squats - feet are wider than your shoulders, still keeping your knees over your toes. Sumo squats target your inner thighs. Do you prefer to workout in a gym? At home? I’m a class setting? Let me know below!👇 when I first started working out, I enjoyed doing class workouts at a barre studio to get used to working out in groups and learn good posture and workout ideas! Now I switch between working out on my own at a gym, and going to yoga classes.

The proper way to do planks! Still working to engage your core, avoid that C shape in your back by not letting your stomach sink down, or raising the back too high. Your body should be in one straight line while planking to protect your back. Need something easier? Start by going on your elbows and work your way up to your hands. Want to challenge yourself? Start by holding your plank for 10 seconds, next time try holding it for 20 seconds, next time try holding for 30 seconds. You’ll be holding your planks for minutes before you know it!😉

Abs! Remember to always engage the core to protect your back. You don’t your back to make a C shape, coming off the floor. Always focus on keeping your lower back pushed into the ground. Here you can see I put my hands in the shape of a triangle under my lower back to help stop it from cresting that C shape. Here are two different options for you. If you are just starting out, bend your knees to be able to really focus on pushing your lower back into the ground and engaging your core. Once you feel comfortable with that, work on straightening your legs all the way.

Workout tips! START SMALL - Start with the basics and work your way up. JOIN A CLASS - Not sure what to do for a workout or need ideas? Join a class to get you started in a group setting. WORKOUT WITH A FRIEND - Having a friend is a great idea if you don’t like to do things alone, get ideas from each other, and help with proper form. PLAN YOUR WORKOUT - Planning your workout before hand will help alleviate stress is figuring out what to do during your workout, allowing yourself to have the best workout you can. AVOID PEAK HOURS - This is one I struggle with, I really dislike going during peak hours when there are so many people around. If it works in your schedule, go during quieter hours to avoid people anxiety and really allow yourself to focus on you and your workout. Have more tips? Share them below! 👇 What works best for you?

Protect the back! Not using the correct form can cause sudden injury or repetitive injury overtime causing chronic tissue damage in the future. Taking these preventative measures now will help strengthen your back and help fight against injuries in the future. When doing ab workouts such as leg lifts, be sure to tighten your core, and keep your back pushing into the floor. You don’t want your back to be curved, looking like a bridge. If you are just starting out, try the modified version to bend your knees rather than straightening them all the way.
