Nestled in the Qu’Appelle Valley, surrounded by rolling hills, prairie grasses, and water, Echo Lake holds us in a way that makes it easier to exhale.
It’s close to home, yet feels like a true getaway — a place to step out of the noise of everyday life and reconnect with what matters most.

Our time together will include guided yoga, breathwork, meditation, sound healing, Reiki and reflexology, nourishing meals, and meaningful connection within sacred sharing circles with like-minded, like-hearted women.

There will be space to rest, reflect, and simply be — supported by community and the beauty of the land.

This retreat feels especially meaningful to me this year. After some recent personal experiences, I’ve been called to slow things down, to reflect more deeply, and to truly listen for where I’m being guided next. This weekend will be just as much a space for me to integrate and realign as it is for those who join — and I believe there is something really powerful in that shared intention.

I’m so honoured to be joined by Jill Bullock and Kristy Apodaca .thai.yoga.massage , two incredible women who will be sharing their gifts and helping create a truly meaningful experience for all who attend.

If you feel the pull to join us, I would love to have you there.

As some of you may know Tara (Shunyata Sound Studio - Sound Bath with Crystal Bowls and Gongs) and I have been co-hosting sound baths as part of the Sun Series workshops she initiated in December 2021. Every turn of the season since then we have gathered community together in a sacred sound bath. I take on the space creation/ spoken word portion of the event and Tara, supported by other sound alchemists, create the sound bath. These have been magical events and helped walked many of us through covid and to the other side, and beyond, and have been seasonal opportunities for slowing down into ceremony and celebration.

Being a part of the Spring Equinox celebration (see details below) was still on my "Hell Yes!" list, even as other commitments are falling away in this time of re-evaluation. And at the same time, both Tara and I had been feeling that some sort of shift was in the air for them.

So it wasn't a huge surprise for me to receive Tara's message that she was feeling this was to be the final event of this sort from this long standing series. We jumped onto a call and both felt the sadness from this ending, and also the appreciation that it was all part of a shedding that needed to happen. Both she and I are feeling the need for more space. Time that isn't quickly filled up with commitments.. even if those commitments are to things we love doing. That was the gist of much of our conversation.
Learning to say no to things that you love.
Not JUST getting rid of those things you don't.
A full plate is not always a better plate, even when it is filled with delicious items.

I reflected to her how perfect the timing of this was. That we were about to create an ending, at the quintessential time of new beginnings: the spring.

And so...
Closing time, every new beginning
Comes from some other beginning's end

We hope you can join us for the final event!! details and registration link: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/vernal-equinox-rest-and-receive-tickets-1984360672188?aff=ebdsoporgprofile

Hi friends, I thought I would share a little (LARGE 😳!) life update. I’m sharing not so much for the story, but for the lesson.

Some of you know that recently I’ve been a bit out of commission — cancelling events, declining invitations, stepping back from commitments, and taking medical leave from work.

God has spoken, and I am listening.

Years ago I read the opening line of The Road Less Travelled:
“Life is difficult.”

In my early 20s I nearly threw the book across the room. I thought if someone believed that, of course life would feel difficult. At that time I had spent years using exercise and positive psychology to push my way through anxiety, depression, disordered eating, and body dysmorphia.

Looking back now, “push through” probably isn’t the right phrase. Mask, numb, hide, dull, avoid might be more accurate. Movement and positivity helped — they were important band-aids — but they were not the solution.

Full story in the slides.

For now, I am slowing things WAY down. I’m deeply re-evaluating everything on my plate.

What decisions will keep me overstressed, overworked, undernourished, and underslept… continuing down the path toward burnout and illness?

Or…

What choices will help me step into the next 50 years of my life as the wise, grounded woman I hope to become?

My commitment is to choose the latter. To choose my health, my longevity, and my children — so I can be here with them for as long as possible. Losing a parent too soon is a heartbreak I know too well.

So please, join me.

Take responsibility for your life — your habits, patterns, and choices. Make the hard decisions to quit things, say no, slow down, and sometimes go against what the world expects of you.

Say yes to your heart, your mind, your body, and your soul.

Thanks for reading. Thank you for all the love and support. ❤️

Health is layered. It’s complex. It’s rarely just one thing.

As Naturopathic Doctors, we have the privilege of working at all of those layers — physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. But one of the most important layers is the relationship you have with yourself.

How are you speaking to your body?
How are you treating your mind?
Are you nourishing yourself… or constantly pushing through?

True, sustainable health isn’t built on quick fixes or force. It grows when we begin to appreciate our bodies, listen to their cues, and care for ourselves with intention and compassion.

When we shift from fighting our bodies to partnering with them, everything changes. This is where I come in, I support this process in a variety of different ways. I want to help you learn to listen and work with your body- to help you thrive within your body, not have a daily battle with it.

Since 2016, I’ve been hosting retreats in places that invite us to slow down, soften, and return to ourselves — and Echo Lake continues to be one of my favourite places to do just that.

Nestled in the Qu’Appelle Valley and surrounded by rolling hills, prairie grasses, and water, this land holds us in a way that makes it easier to exhale. It’s close to home, yet feels like a true getaway — a place to step out of the noise of everyday life and reconnect with what matters most.

Our time together will include guided yoga, breathwork, meditation, sound healing, access to Reiki and massage, nourishing meals, and meaningful connection within sharing circles. There will be space to rest, reflect, and simply be — supported by community and the beauty of the land.

Every month I host a circle of women where we come together to celebrate sisterhood, authenticity, freedom — ourselves and each other.

These evenings are an invitation to return to ritual and ceremony, practices that are so often lost in the busyness of work, family, and daily life. Our time together offers a sacred pause — a chance to slow down, drop in, and reconnect.

We begin by centering together, then share heart-opening cacao treats, move through gentle yoga to awaken the body, and flow into free-form dance and movement. Release practices, creativity exercises, and spaciousness are woven throughout the night, and we close with a short share before parting ways until the next gathering.

This month’s dance night:

📅 Friday, February 6
⏰ 7:30–9:30 pm
📍 Tribal Vibes Healing Centre

If you feel the pull to join us — or would like to be added to the email list specifically for these evenings — click below and let me know. I would love to dance with you.

One of my favourite things about being a Naturopathic Doctor is that I get to take a truly whole-body approach to healing — body, mind, and spirit.

Health is never just one thing. When we slow down and look at the root cause of what’s going on, everything starts to make more sense. As we uncover those deeper layers, things begin to align — energy improves, symptoms shift, and life starts to feel more balanced again.

I genuinely love supporting people in whatever capacity they need. Watching someone move from feeling stuck or depleted into a place where they’re thriving is why I do this work.

Self-care is deeply personal… but it is not meant to be done in isolation.

We are the only ones who can move our bodies. The only ones who choose what goes on our forks. The only ones who decide when to push — and when to rest.

Our health and our destiny are shaped by these daily choices, moment by moment. And even on the hardest days, there is always one small choice available that supports our well-being.

But here is the part we often forget: Even though the work is ours to do… it is so much harder to do it alone.

Healing thrives in connection. Growth happens faster with encouragement. Change sticks when there is accountability and community.

We are wired for interdependence — for teachers, guides, and cheerleaders who help hold us steady when our own motivation wavers.

You don’t have to walk your health journey by yourself. Support is not weakness. It’s part of being human. I am here to support you on that journey and help make positive changes stick and lead to long term success in your goals.

As we move out of the holidays and into a new year, I love sharing simple, nourishing recipes that help gently reset the body and support clean eating — without rigidity or extremes.

The four recipes I’m sharing were chosen for our post-holiday newsletter for exactly this reason. The winter salad is rich in cruciferous vegetables that support liver detoxification, while the abundance of brightly coloured fruits and veggies delivers a wide range of phytochemicals, antioxidants, and nutrients to help supercharge your health.

The turmeric-ginger broth is one of my favourites this time of year. It’s deeply anti-inflammatory and wonderfully supportive for the gut and joints. You can absolutely use a leftover holiday turkey carcass as your base, sip the broth on its own, use it as a foundation for soups, or let your creativity take over in the kitchen.

These are simple, grounding ways to care for your body as we step into the new year.

And if you’re feeling called to go a little deeper with nutrition and want more guidance and structure, I’ll be running my clean eating nutrition program later this month. It’s a beautiful way to support your health with intention as the year begins.

Enjoy the recipes, and enjoy the journey back to feeling nourished.

As the Christmas season fills with busyness, we invite you to step out of the noise and into stillness. On the longest night of the year- December 21st, we gather to slow down, reflect, and listen deeply to our inner voice as we follow the path of the Sun into winter.

We are honoured to welcome Michael Hawkes and the Halcyon Quartet as our guest musicians for this special change-of-season gathering.

My spoken word will hold the space for the evening, while sound alchemist Tara Semple curates a transformative sound journey.
She will be joined by Hart Godden, Rosa Mirijello-Haynes & Linda Yablonski, weaving together crystal bowls, flutes, drums, chimes, and gongs to guide you into the sound field.

These vibrations are designed to soothe the mind, slow your brain waves, and invite you into the liminal space where creativity, intuition, and deep healing awaken.

Please arrive 15 minutes early to settle in, Bring your own cushion or mat, a warm blanket, and any pillows you need for comfort.

And if you’re searching for a meaningful Christmas gift… this experience might be the perfect offering for someone you love. 🎁

*PLEASE READ - time sensitive - in case you are interested I have a class starting TONIGHT (Thursday Nov. 20)!*

This summer I turned 50... and I also lost my dad. Life has been a roller coaster to say the least, and my foundations have been shaken. All against the background of shifting hormones as I move into my elder years. I feel very blessed to have the tools, knowledge, courage, strength and self-compassion that I have gathered over my lifetime on this earth to help me navigate through changing and challenging times.
AND I want to share them with others.

Tonight I am starting a 5 week series on navigating perimenopause and menopause. The classes take place Thursday nights from 7-8:30 pm in the boardroom at my clinic Prairie Sky Integrative Health(2146 Robinson St) OR online via zoom.
$375 for the 5 sessions.

We talk about the physiology of this time period, the energetics of what is happening within your body as it makes this transition, how to support yourself through nutrition, supplements, and lifestyle practices. We demystify hormone replacement. You receive information, guidance, healthy snacks, recipes, and we engage in meditation and reflective exercises.

I appreciate this is short notice, such is the way of my life these days! Rolling with the moment, however if you are interested in joining me for this, or a future offering please email me at julie@prairieskyhealth.ca

Please share with anyone that may be interested!

Living in harmony with the seasons and learning to pull from the teachings, gifts and blessings of the natural world is something that has been essential for me in navigating life's many challenges, and being able to live it to the fullest despite what it might bring my way.

Fall is the season that teaches us how to let go. Our gardens are harvested, fruit pulled from their vines, crops removed, flowers shrivel, plants die, trees lose their leaves, many animals begin their preparations for their deep sleeps of winter. Yet nature doesn't balk at this process, nature in its inherent wisdom knows to let go, to allow the transition to happen with all the grace of the changing of the colours of the leaves, knowing in its silent awareness that after a restorative winter spring will come again.

As humans we have aspects of us that are designed to want to clench with white knuckles and tight fists to the familiar, the comfortable (even when it has become uncomfortable), the known, and the thought of letting go, exhaling, releasing, surrendering feels impossible. The other side feels to frightening, invokes feelings of loss of control, or in many cases the concern that letting go, or surrendering means "giving up" and since we are unaware of the nuanced by vital difference between surrender and resignation, still we hold tight.

I have had first hand the experience of the need to let go this month. On September 8th my beloved father was taken back to Creator as his body breathed it's final breaths in my company. Not many things are harder than loss and the subsequent grief that follows. For me, allowing the tears to flow, and act as fertilizer for whatever may be the next chapter to be written for me on the other side of this pain (analogous to a long hard winter), and trusting that, as nature does, when my own metaphorical spring comes it will be a beautiful time of rebirth.

If you are going through your own season of transition and would like help with whatever time of change, transition, loss, or grief that you may be experiencing, come out TONIGHT - Sunday, September 21st from 7:30 to 9 pm is the Fall Equinox Sound bath. Special guest Jack Semple will be there with myself and creator of the Sun Series, Tara Semple. Sound is a powerful tool for release, transformation, and healing, and this series was designed to support us through all of life's transitions through the celebration of the seasons.

Tickets are going fast *we hope you can join us!
