Myth: Brushing is bad for bleeding gums. When your gums bleed, its a sign that plaque and food particles are accumulating along your gum line and the gums have become irritated and inflamed. You need to brush to remove the gunk if you want the bleeding to stop. The key is to brush and floss regularly and gently. Your dental hygienist will be happy to help you improve your technique.

Truth: Not following recommended regular brushing will make the gums red, swollen and bleed easily, making it obvious to the dentist. Your dentist will know that you have not been brushing regularly.
