Little man is in the hospital for a few days - so I'm living here too!
Getting some rare 1-on-1 time without distractions and work or chores to do. Board games, video games, and books are helping pass the time.
We will see how his recovery goes. I'm expected to have to help him rehab, at least getting activity levels up again, if not manage post-op scarring or other issues.
Healthy sleep is a
Regularity and bedtime rituals (I prefer reading and meditation) can help get your body and mind ready for sleep, leading to more restful slumber.
It's time for pumpkins, apples, and cinnamon - everything orange, red, and yellow.
We love summer, but there's a beauty of autumn that isn't like any other time of year.
If you haven't prepared for winter's cold, add warming spices like cinnamon to your foods and eat seasonal items like squash and apples. These help store your warm energy (yang) for the winter!
Not getting enough sleep (aka. "sleep debt", or "sleep deficit") can have devastating effects on physical and mental health.
We all know that tired people make more mistakes, think more slowly, and often have trouble focusing. Less commonly known are the negative effects on fertility, food cravings, body weight, physical strength and performance, immune function, and cardiovascular health.
To make matters worse, sleep debt is cumulative. Even a few days of poor sleep add up, and chronic sleep debt has been linked to:
-Hypertension
-Diabetes
-Sleep apnea
-Obesity
-Heart attack
-Stroke
-Depression and anxiety
So if you are an athlete, recovering from injury, or just want to live a healthier life, make sure you get your sleep! The simplest way to know if you've gotten enough rest? Ask yourself: do you need an alarm to wake up, and are you very tired and groggy when you do?
It's time for the kids to go back to school. Will your kids keep wearing masks? We are expecting our kids to get sick more often, especially once flu season arrives. Having been masked for most of the past 2 years we see that everyone, including kids are getting sick regularly. The stuffy noses and fevers are back in full force!
Thanks goodness we have acupuncture and our favourite healthy teas to keep the colds at bay!
I was today years old when I learned of National Relaxation Day, which sounds much better than the Civic Holiday we just had earlier this month.
If we had a real holiday dedicated to relaxing I'm betting so many people would take full advantage of it... and we NEED the downtime! So many people are over worked and chronically stressed, and that's a path to pain and problems in the long run.
So love yourself, take the time to heal. Recharge so you can be your best self.
Is euphoria really enough though?
Happy Tuesday!
Who do we go to as children when we need care or when we get hurt? Mom.
Who hugs us and says "I love you" and has the softest kisses? Mom.
Who gives everything, every day for her children? Mom.
Everyone, everywhere, has a mother somewhere. Today, show her some love.
Happy Mother's Day ๐

So nice to see what we do getting more and more mainstream coverage.
"Research on acupuncture has been extensive, and so far, robust evidence supports its effectiveness for some, but not all, conditions....the science is strongest behind acupunctureโs efficacy for post-stroke aphasia; neck, shoulder, and muscle pain; fibromyalgia pain; lactation issues after delivery; lower back pain; vascular dementia symptoms; and allergy symptoms"
Here's what research says about the complementary therapy
It's children's mental health week! The focus of this week is empathy. Kids often get overlooked, or simply told what to do - we are, after all, their first teachers and guides, and raising children can be challenging! But let's remember to listen to them too. Kids can be acutely aware of what's happening, and they feel emotions strongly, even if they can't always describe it well. So and listen with your heart.

This one is for people with numbness in the hand and arm - we explain Scalene Pain Referral Syndrome.
https://youtu.be/V8bs__j6aRI
Looking at the basics of scalene pain referral syndrome, aka scalene thoracic outlet syndrome, as one possible cause of numbness in the arm and hand. ...
Energy, vibration, spirit, mood, emotion...they all refer to a similar thing, an inexplicable sense of feeling good, happy, and healthy.
This is today's friendly reminder that your thoughts and feelings can affect your health; sending everyone good vibes today.
Long-term health is the result of the actions we take on a regular basis.
Action x Repetition.
Exercise 3 times per week or take daily walks. Eat good nutrition and minimize junk. Sleep well. Meditate. When we take care of the basics we are in much better health and if something does happen and we need care, recovery is often faster and more complete because there's already a strong foundation.
This is an enhanced image of the eye. We had a chance to visit an eye specialist and many different tests were done. Images like this a beautiful, aren't they? Like a little galaxy.
Wishing you all to be pain free ๐
This great jmage from is so powerful.
Was chatting with a patient today how the anticipation before a medical procedure is the worst part of it. Waiting and imagining what can go wrong after surgery, IVF, etc adds so much anxiety to an already stressful situation.
I often feel like half my job is helping patients cope with the challenges they are facing while we are working on improving their health to get the success they are looking for.
Mask mandates changed for much of Ontario this week, and while we are happy things are getting back to normal (comicon actually happened!), we are reminding everyone that healthcare facilities are still required to maintain mask use at all times until further notice.
Thanks for your cooperation ๐ท
Today we got to celebrate and at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts. What a great time! Wonderful performances, and it was so nice meeting so many people and seeing the kids at the festival have fun. They are so curious, always asking about our tools. They young kids really like the acupressure stimulator we use for pediatric sessions.
Special thanks to for inviting us to participate with a table ๐
Happy Spring everyone!!!

Looks like I injured my A2 pulley in the middle finger ๐ญ
Thankfully I've treated this type of injury a lot and with a little bit of time and care I'm hoping to make a full recovery in a few weeks.

When life gets extra busy and stress is high it's even more important to maintain your self-care routines. One-off personal days are great! What helps us here in our family is more regular, day-to-day self-care. Get outside, exercise, sleep as well as you can, and spend time enjoying each other's company.
Whatever it is that works for you, it is vital that that we all finds ways to unwind. Enjoy!
Ginger is great for the stomach. It eases digestive upset and warms the body with its naturally spicy nature. Ginger has a long history of helping treat common colds, nausea, and phlegmy cough. Ginger tea is a favourite in the winter, and some variations include fruit such a persimmon ๐
GINGER TEA RECIPE
1 inch of ginger root with the skin removed, sliced thinly
(use more or less to taste, but when used for medicinal purposes it should have a bit of spiciness from the ginger)
Bring 2 cups of water to a boil and simmer the ginger in it for 15 minutes
Add Chinese brown sugar or honey to taste
*Donโt make it too sweet - this is for home remedy, not dessert!
Drink warm
Received a lovely thank you from a patient. The mugs look great, and the best part is knowing the patient is so happy with our services ๐งก
What makes you happy? Friends, family, hobbies? For many of our patients happiness is simply a pain-free day. That's what we do - we bring happiness to people. It's a wonderful feeling ๐

Life is about rhythm. Every day needs to have some pattern for our bodies to maintain optimal health. This includes steady mealtimes and regular sleeping hours, among many other potential daily rituals. What daily rituals does the ancient wisdom of Chinese medicine suggest for modern life? - Wake with the sun - Exercise first thing in the morning - Eat meals at the same time every day. Eat seated and relaxed - no rushing! - Eat until satisfied, not stuffed - Go to sleep between 11pm-1am (or earlier, but never later) - Sleep earlier and wake later in winter - just like the sun! - When working, take regular breaks to rejuvenate your mind - Stretch and move your body throughout the day - Do eye exercises to maintain vision and fight eye fatigue Chinese medicine takes the long view on health, and prevention is the best medicine. If you take care of the small, simple things, the big things tend to turn out better. #prevention #selfcare #healthyliving #bestlife #healthtips #painfree #healthcare #wellness #acucentrerichmondhill #acupuncture #chinesemedicine #healthyself #wellness #aginggracefully #painrelief #lifestyle #chronicpain #chronicdisease
"Qi", "Chi", and "Ki" are common spellings for the same thing: the vital energy of the body, a concept that is central to traditional acupuncture systems. Patients often ask us how acupuncture works or why it is so effective for relieving their pains, regulating hormone levels, and improving their health. We often talk about the anatomy and the tissues we are stimulating, but these answers don't explain why we use acupoints distally, away from the problem area. At its core, the central concept in TCM is a person's vitality - the flow and balance of their energy. This is especially true in the field of gynecology. When the phases of a woman's cycle reach their markers at the right times, a smoother, healthier cycle is present. That means the uterus and eggs are healthier, menstruation is more regular, and PMS symptoms are lessened. With acupuncture we encourage the body to shift through the phases.; It's like training oneself to eat, sleep, and wake up at the same time every day. With time and consistency your body eventually builds up a habit that becomes easier to maintain. #gynecology #tcm #chinesemedicine #healthyliving #bestlife #painfree #healthcare #wellness #menstruation #menstrualcycle #naturalhealthcare #livinghealthy #yinandyang #acucentrerichmondhill #acupuncture #healthcare #fertilitymedicine #painrelief #energy #vitality
What is Yin & Yang? Yin and Yang are the foundation of the systems that created Chinese medicine acupuncture, and at its core it's all about BALANCE. When it comes to good health and a happy life we aim to avoid extremes. Laziness or over-working. Over-eating or missing meals. Chronically sleeping in or staying up late. In almost all cases there needs to be balance, a middle path that doesn't pull us off the road forward. When the body falls out of balance then problems arise, and when we provide acupuncture the goal is to help the body to regain said balance - something it is already trying to do but may need help. While you can't control everything - unlucky genetics, accidents, and other mishaps are bound to happen - we do what we can to make tomorrow better than today. Thanks to be pandemic there has been A LOT of imbalance, and we have seen the results in those who come to us for help. Aside from therapy, what can you do to take care of yourself? 1) Sleep well. The ideal time to fall asleep is around 11pm, give or take a couple of hours. Anything after 1am tends to wreak havoc and leads to insufficient rest, even if you do get your hours in. Waking around 7am (again give or take a couple of hours) is also ideal. 2) Eat well. Nutritious food provides the building blocks of your body. Avoiding unhealthy foods, especially heavily processed, overly sweet/salty, or artificially preserved foods allows the good stuff to do its job. 3) Move your body. Find a sport or active hobby you enjoy and do it regularly. It doesn't take a lot to reap the health benefits of exercise. 4) Have some fun and enjoy the moment. Mental health is important too. How do you process and relieve stress? It is an undeniably important factor when it comes to healthy living. These factors can have enormous positive or negative effects on our long-term health. Too much or too little of anything leads to problems, so trust your body and find that balance. #yinandyang #balancedliving #lif
Blood is extremely important in TCM, especially in obstetrics and gynecology. The flow of blood during menstruation tells a lot about the health of a woman, and this phase sets the stage for the rest of the cycle. The uterus sheds its lining during menstruation and needs sufficient nourishment from blood to grow it back and thicken to prepare for implantation. A pregnant woman's blood nourishes the as it grows inside the womb, which is also supported by her blood. Abnormalities in the quality, quantity, and circulation of a woman's blood may contribute to health problems (not only gynecological in nature) including infertility and miscarriage. Good, healthy blood systems in TCM come first and foremost from a healthy lifestyle. Sleep and nutrition are particularly important, and if a patient's self-care isn't enough then therapy may be necessary - acupuncture or herbal medicine, for example. #blood #gynecology #obstetrics #obgyn #acupuncture #chinesemedicine #herbalmedicine #naturalhealthcare #bestlife #fertility #menstruation #womenshealth #acucentrerichmondhill
