It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved founder, Gordon S. Wood, on September 12, 2023.
Gord established Gordon Wood Optical in Toronto during the mid-'60s, and in 1968, he relocated the store to Richmond Hill, where it has remained a cherished institution ever since. Throughout his career, he skillfully imparted his knowledge and expertise as an optician to his dedicated employees, Rob Dickinson and Evelyn Kopton-Fearnley. Upon Gord's retirement, Rob and Evelyn took over the business together, preserving his legacy. In the spirit of continuity, Rob and Evelyn passed on Gord's valuable skills to the current generation of Gordon Wood Optical staff, namely Kam Tung Ip, Ruth Almond, and Angie Stoneman, who proudly carry on his optician legacy to this day.
We mourn the loss of a visionary leader and extend our heartfelt condolences to Gord's family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. His passion, dedication, and contributions to the optical industry will be remembered and cherished forever.
