Happy Wednesday!

“Karin, I think I’m failing in my new role.”
That’s what a manager told me last week - after being in the role for just over 6 months.

He’s not failing.
He’s doing exactly what got him promoted.
And that’s the problem.

Most people think a promotion is a reward.
It’s not. It’s a completely different job. 😵‍💫

📌 Same person.
📌 Same effort.
📌 Same work ethic.
📌 Wrong mindset.

You were promoted for what you did.
You’ll succeed for how you think.

And nobody teaches that part.
So people work harder…
get more involved…
try to prove themselves…
…and slowly become the bottleneck.

Not because they’re not capable.
But because they’re still thinking like a doer.

Happy Wednesday!

No time to train leaders on the shop floor?
Then get ready to spend your days managing problems, downtime, and turnover. 😳

Most supervisors in manufacturing aren’t trained to lead, they’re promoted for being technically strong.

And then we wonder why communication breaks down, why engagement drops,
and why the same issues keep coming back.

Let’s be honest:
This is not a production problem.
It’s a leadership and communication problem.

I’ve always believed in putting people first.
Not because numbers don’t matter, but because people produce the numbers. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Machines don’t create culture.
Leaders do.

So here’s the real question:
Are your operators heard… or just expected to perform and follow?

Because toxic environments don’t come from the work, they come from how people are led.

And it only takes ‼️one leader‼️ on the floor with the courage to think differently, communicate clearly, and lead like a human being… to shift everything.

Happy Thursday!

There’s something that has been on my mind for a long time:
Why are we so prone to living in fear?

Since moving to Canada, I’ve realized that I’ve rarely been in my comfort zone. There are often fears and worries in my mind. I do my best to counter them with relentless optimism, hope, and faith, but it’s not easy.

People often tell me I have a very optimistic outlook, and I say:
“Yes, and it takes hard work to keep my mind in check.” 🤷🏼‍♀️

When I look at the corporate world, I notice that many (if not most) people operate from a place of fear, for different reasons.

But the most challenging situation?
A fearful and insecure manager.

Leaders who pretend to have it all figured out, yet fail to truly lead their teams. They follow their own managers blindly, without standing up for themselves, or for their people.

Did you know it takes courage to be human?
Especially in environments that reward output over people.

When people in leadership roles are constantly at their limits, something predictable happens:
✅Emotions go up
✅Thinking goes down
✅Decisions get rushed
✅Communication gets shorter
✅Patience disappears

😳 Emotions high. Intelligence low.

Leaders default to what feels urgent:
numbers, output, firefighting.

And slowly, often without realizing it,
people get pushed to the background.

Anger is a secondhand emotion. Nobody is born angry. 😤 We feel other emotions first… Maybe fear, regret, hopelessness, helplessness, guilt, loneliness, shame, and the list goes on and on.

People can get bent out of shape pretty easily these days. The pressure is high, people have to do more with less, and working a crazy amount of hours has almost become a status symbol. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Consistency vs. Motivation 🤩

Just recently, I came across this video, and I find it to be so true. I’ve often been motivated to take action, but I’ve also experienced what happens when the excitement fades - I quit. 😔

Over time, I’ve learned that consistent actions turn into habits, and this leads to lasting results.

Happy Wednesday!

Should people reconsider what retirement truly means to them?

1) The freedom to do nothing?
2) The freedom to pursue what you love?
3) Living without the constant fear of losing a job, making mistakes, failing, facing criticism, or dealing with people you dislike?

Many people ask when I plan to retire, and my answer is always the same:
I don’t plan to retire because I love what I do and live a self-directed life.
There’s nothing I want to escape from, but there are many things I still want to accomplish. 🤩

I refuse to follow the conventional path. Define retirement based on your own needs and values.
