“What I’m trying to cultivate is not blind optimism or inane positivity but what the philosopher Jonathan Lear calls radical hope. “What makes this hope radical,” Lear writes, “is that it is directed toward a future goodness that transcends the current ability to understand what it is.”
- Junot Díaz (and Jonathan Lear)
On this second day of 2025, I cultivate hope. And, as Junot Díaz and Jonathan Lear propose, the kind of hope that dares to dream outside of the box. The kind of hope that has allowed for dreaming; those dreams that have instigated change. The kind of hope that has made it possible for humans to survive despite the greatest challenges.
May you feel that hope. May you add it to the collective. May we experience the magic that radical hope brings.
I will be sending out some updates soon, as the Revive community brews up a plan for the rest of this season and beyond. For now, all our classes and regular gatherings are restarting after the holiday break - check out our schedule on the website for details!
