⭐️ DRAINLESS TUMMY TUCK ⭐️

Post-operative drains have been commonly used for abdominoplasties for decades. The benefits of reduced swelling and seroma risk are offset by increased discomfort, scarring and infection risk. Drains were routinely used in our practice until research emerged suggesting that buried absorbable sutures could serve the same purpose. Since 2020, Dr. Reid has been using quilting sutures, instead of surgical drains, in all of his abdominoplasties, thus making recovery for our patients considerably more comfortable and easy 👌🏼

While we are happy your friend is satisfied with her implant size, the same size may not be right for you. Implant sizes are based on a number of factors:

➡️ Your aesthetic desire
➡️ Your body’s frame and proportions
➡️ Most importantly, measurements based on breast and chest wall. A device like the one pictured is used to take these measurements.

Dr. Reid will go over all these factors during your in depth consultation 👍🏼

Taking care of your scars post operatively is so important. We typically have our patients wear their original steri strips for up to 2 weeks and further progress to our favourite silicone tape, which keeps the scar flat and soft. This is to be worn for a number of weeks and for some a number of months. Please know that everyone scars differently. Some patients might never use a single scar product and still scar well. Others may use scar products routinely and still scar poorly or form keloids. All outcomes and risks are outlined by Dr. Reid during the consult and pre operative appointment. Post operative scaring is not always predictable. Using quality scar products reduces the risks but does not prevent the potential of poor quality scars.

Have you had minor surgery with Dr. Reid? Usually, any lesion excised on the face will have non dissolvable sutures. This ensures a nicer scar. Did you know dissolving sutures do not actually dissolve on their own? The body creates an inflammatory process to “breakdown” the sutures. This response can cause injury to the skin and train track looking scars. Follow up scar care with silicone scar gel and sunscreen 👍🏼 These dainty tools are what we remove your sutures with about 1 week later!

Confused about which scar products to use? Here’s our favourites!

➡️ CytoDerma Silicone Scar Gel is great for small areas, like incisions on the face
➡️ Bio-Oil is great for massaging into large scars or stretch marks long term
➡️ Mepitac Silicone Surgical Tape can be started 1-2 weeks after surgery, on medium to large incisions, and is absolutely amazing at keeping scars flat and soft

We will be reopening slowly over the next few weeks! As always, our commitment to the safety of our staff, patients and community is our number one priority. However, our protocols may look a little bit different now, as we will be following strict guidelines:

✔️ All patients will be screened for fever and COVID19 related symptoms at the time of their booking, 48 hours prior and before entering our waiting room. Patients must come alone. There will be no more than 1-2 persons in our wait room to allow for physical distancing.
✔️ All staff are required to wear masks and gloves. Staff at our front desk will be behind acrylic barriers.
✔️ The office, exam/treatment rooms and high touch areas will be completely sanitized frequently throughout the day. As always, hand sanitizer will be provided upon arrival, in each exam room and in multiple areas of our office.
✔️ If you are scheduled at our office, we encourage you to bring your own mask. If you do not have one, we will gladly provide one for you.
✔️ All appointments will be booked to maintain physical distancing. All previously cancelled patients will be rebooked first. Please be patient with our surgical coordinator and inquiry manager, as you will hear from them as soon as you are able to be scheduled. Please do not hesitate to contact our staff if you have questions about your previous or future bookings.
✔️ Virtual consults are available when suitable for patient needs/physician assessment.

He returned to the Vancouver area to accept a staff position in the Division of Plastic Surgery at the Richmond Hospital. He considers Richmond home and feels fortunate to be working and raising his family in the community where he began his medical training.
