Term 3 was filled with guests, new lessons, novel experiences, and more! Check out our post to see the behind the scenes from our "The Day in A Life of a School's Out Student" video. Special thanks to program and their outreach workers, Gabriel Narciso and Alisha Weng, for supporting.

This term we featured a few social-emotional workshops from ShEvalesco's Safe Minds curriculum. A huge shout out to the for their support and teachings! Throughout the term, we learned about Boundaries and Consent and Care in Communication.

We reinvited two classic School's Out guests: Mike Larson from Mike's Critters to introduce various animal species, and Sharlene from SPEC's School Gardens Program to teach our students how to care for our garden space.

A special thank you to for continuing to support this program! We are so excited to see everyone again in the Summer!

Let's learn about the Mental Life Area together with Part 2 of our 5 Life Areas Education Post series.

We may eat a balanced diet, get a good amount of sleep, and even exercise on a regular basis, but what happens when the stress of every day life gets to us? Even if we take care of our physical health, we still need to do things for our mental health. Our minds and our emotional states are important for our overall wellness. If you're feeling overwhelmed by what you can do, take a read through this post or reach out to us for resources and support.

What are your favourite habits around taking care of your mental health? Share them with us in the comments! Who knows, you might get a new idea from others of something you can do to take care of your mental health ☺️

The theme of Mental Health Week this year is . Living with mental health struggles is challenging enough already, but masking your struggles can make the experience even more difficult and isolating.

That is why we are constantly talking about mental health as part of destigmatizing it and as part of addiction prevention. By normalizing needing help and by being non-judgemental when talking about others, we can help people unmask their pain and be able to receive the support they need.

Let's learn about the Physical Life Area together with Part 1 of our 5 Life Areas Education Post series.

Looking after the health of our bodies is one of the first things we learn about in life, from learning how to recognize hunger, to knowing when to stretch and change the position of our bodies. However, with the hustle and bustle of life, it can be easy to forget about our physical bodies when we are caught up in the pursuit of emotional gratification or academic success.

What are your favourite habits around taking care of your physical health? Share them with us in the comments! Who knows, you might get a new idea from others of something you can do to take care of your physical health ☺️

Working together...

Richmond Addiction Services Society (RASS) has provided substance use support services in Richmond since 1975. “We are dedicated to providing expertise in preventing and treating addictions in our community”. Our prevention programming focuses on health promotion activities including educational workshops, recovery based programs and awareness campaigns throughout Richmond. RASS provides clinical counselling based on clients' needs whether they are using the substance or are impacted by someone else's use. RASS serves youth under the age of 25 and to persons older than 55. Our vision is for “healthy and safe living for individuals and families in our community". Our purpose is to provide accessible, low barrier and free services without judgment when and where it is needed.
