Actin Physio is thrilled to welcome Amanda Mundie to the team.

Amanda graduated from Langara College’s Registered Massage Therapy program in 2021. Prior to pursuing a career in Massage Therapy, Amanda worked as a Rehabilitation Assistant alongside Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists. Working within a hospital setting, Amanda gained a variety of experience working with many different presentations. These experiences allowed her to learn and become interested in applying manual therapy techniques as a part of Rehabilitation.

Amanda’s treatments consist of utilizing a variety of massage therapy techniques, such as myofascial release, joint mobilizations, trigger point release, active/passive stretching, as well as Swedish massage.

Outside of clinic, Amanda enjoys spending time with her friends and family, drinking tea, trying new restaurants, and running.

The adult human skeleton is made up of 206 bones. Interactions between bones and muscles contribute to the wide range of movements your body is capable of making.

But did you know that bones also serve other functions including:
🔹Protecting internal organs
🔹Storing nutrients essential to your body
🔹Producing blood cells

You may see models of some of the bones & joints at the clinic. Our Therapists may use these as tools to help educate their patients.

Manu is demonstrating passive range of motion assessment of the elbow. These are one of the many tests our
Physiotherapists use as part of our assessments at Actin Physiotherapy.

A comprehensive evaluation will allow our team to:
▪Create an individualized program from our assessment findings.
▪Develop a comprehensive treatment plan so that you can get back to feeling better ASAP.
▪Provide honest and clear communication so you know what to expect during the course of treatment.

The bird dog exercise helps to develop strong core strength. Improved core strength can reduce back pain experienced during everyday activity, or with higher intensity exercises.

Ex*****on:
1. Get on your hands and knees, making sure that your hands are under your shoulders and knees are hip distance apart.
2. Tighten your core and begin to extend one leg behind you while keeping the hips level.
3. If you feel stable, start to reach the opposite hand in front of you. Otherwise, practice keeping your hips level with both hands planted on the ground.
4. Hold the position for 2-3 seconds then lower the hands and knees to the ground.
5. Repeat the motion with the alternate side.

Remember to keep the hips in line with each other. Engage the core to keep the back from sagging.

The average Canadian adult sits for about 10 hours per day. A growing variety of research highlights certain risk factors associated with prolonged sitting:
▫️Back Aches
▫️Obesity
▫️Cardiovascular diseases

Joseph is making use of the clinic's standing desk to take a break from sitting, while doing some charting and planning his patients' programs. However, you don't need to be a Kinesiologist or invest in a standing desk to sit less. Here are some ways you can reduce your sitting time and be a little more active:
1. Take short breaks from working at your desk to stand up and stretch
2. Park your car a little further away from work and walk the rest of the way
3. Get off the bus one stop early to get some extra steps in
4. Stand up and/or walk while taking a phone call

These short "sitting breaks" can be an effective way to get yourself moving and to switch up your routine.
