Midwifery Care Series
Part 3: Postpartum 🩺🏠
Postpartum is a period of adjustment for everyone – families and newborns alike. Midwives typically provide postpartum care for newborns until the baby is 6 weeks old. During this time, the midwife may visit the family in their home or have them come into a community-based clinic (here Terra Nova Midwifery, we offer both)!
Midwives will work closely with the family to ensure there is a schedule for postpartum visits, often providing more frequent visits in the first few weeks after birth.
This is a time when midwives are assessing how the family and newborn are doing, can assist with infant feeding, and provide connection and referral to other specialized healthcare providers if needed.
