🎃 Pumpkin carving safety tips from our Certified Hand Therapists ✋
Pumpkin carving is a fun fall tradition, but every year hospitals see an increase in hand injuries, especially tendon or nerve cuts from sharp knives or slipping tools.
Here’s how to keep carving fun (and safe):
🧡 Use pumpkin carving kits instead of kitchen knives — they’re designed for control.
🧡 Keep your hands and tools dry to prevent slipping.
🧡 Always carve away from your hand and take your time.
🧡 Try cutting the bottom off your pumpkin instead of the top to keep it steady.
If you sustain a deep cut, don’t ignore it, see a doctor right away to prevent long-term loss of motion or strength.
How Certified Hand Therapists Can Help:
CHTs are specially trained to treat tendon, nerve, and complex hand injuries. They work closely with surgeons and physicians to create custom splints, guide safe movement, and help restore strength, dexterity, and confidence.
🖐 Protect your hands this Halloween and if something happens, our team is here to help you recover safely and fully.
