RCD took part in the BMO Vancouver 8KM Race this weekend as a Silver Charity Partner. It was our 3rd year participating in the marathon event, and this time we broke our own record with a full team of 29 charity runners. As a team, we have currently raised $8,000 with the support of friends, families, and community members.

Thank you for cheering us on and supporting the work we do for people with disabilities.

Congratulations to all the runners for training hard and crossing the finish line together!

On Apr 16, 2026, the City of Richmond celebrated the grand opening of RCD’s new home in a joint ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Mayor Malcom Brodie presented his remarks, highlighting the Founder Frances Clark’s vision and unwavering commitment to serving people with disabilities, as well as the organization’s role in driving accessibility planning and policy changes over the years.

RCD President Sandra Gebhardt and Townline CEO Daryl Simpson also shared about the organization’s work and developer partnership, notably on how the collaboration has enabled RCD to grow by having a tailored space to explore new types of services and programs for years to come. In the presence of many esteemed community partners, this pivotal milestone in RCD’s 40-year legacy marked the start of an exciting new chapter.

Each year, on December 3rd, the United Nations observes International Day of Persons With Disabilities (IDPD). The UN theme for this year's celebration was : “Fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress.”

RCD celebrated this day by hosting an opportunity to meet Evan Dunfee, an Olympic and World Medalist in Race Walking and Paralympian, Peter Isherwood, Table Tennis Canada's Male Athlete of the Year in 2022. Attendees got a chance
to interact with these athletes, asking them questions, seeing a real Olympic medal and playing Table Tennis with Peter. Those who tried out Table Tennis were asked to sit in a wheelchair while playing. The wheelchairs for the Table Tennis were generously supplied by BC Wheelchair Basketball and there were several musical performances by talented singers donating their time.

In attendance were, Richmond City Councilors Bill McNulty, Andy Hobbs, Carol Day, and Alexa Loo. Even one of the Councilors competed with Peter Isherwood, while sitting in a wheelchair. I will leave it for you to guess who!

The event was well attended and fun was had by all!
