Violence against women is a serious issue and often begins or escalates during pregnancy. As a Doula how would you react if you discovered your client was being abused?
Early intervention is key in helping women find their way out of an abusive relationship, this will ensure that she and baby are safe, protected, and healthy during the pregnancy
Forty percent of first incidents of domestic violence and abuse are reported during pregnancy. This is usually due to the abuser feeling insecure, fearful, and that they no longer can control their partner or the situation. Abuse usually begins with seemingly small and insignificant comments and builds up.
Violence during pregnancy causes an increased risk of miscarriage, low birth weight babies, fetal injury or even death.
As a Doula do you want to know how to recognize if you client is suffering from intimate partner violence or abuse, what you can do support her through it and where to find help for her?
This course will teach you how to recognize the signs of intimate partner violence and abuse, what to do and how to assist your client physically, mentally, and emotionally.
The course is self-paced online course and consists of 14 Modules. Each module contains topic reading, videos, and articles with short assignments. There will be one book review required that you choose from the reading list.
It is designed for any type of learner and can be completed easily within 4-6 months, however you have one year to complete are course work.
A printable certificate of completion will be provided once all course materials have completed and submitted and marked.
