Common Sense Defense for Women

Common Sense Defense for Women Teaching a Common Sense approach to women's self-defense—practical, effective, and empowering strategies to stay safe. 💪 LOL. Just kidding.

Recently retired from RCMP after 15 years. Born and raised in PEI. Four sisters and one brother so I got beat up a lot growing up. My Mom is my role model and rock. I have wanted to do this course since I started at Depot and can now put my complete focus and attention in helping women feel more confident and free from worry.

Ladies, it’s Friday, Dose of Reality time.

A lot of danger signs in life don’t jump out at you right away. Sometimes the warning signs are there the whole time… your awareness just hasn’t been triggered yet.

That applies to parking lots, relationships, online scams, people around you, and situations that simply don’t feel right.

The moment your awareness changes, you start seeing things differently.

Trust your instincts.
Pay attention to patterns.
Stay alert, even when life feels comfortable.

Because sometimes the problem was always there…you just weren’t looking for it yet.

Not me. Not today. Not ever.

Defenders,

Which jersey do you like? Just curious which jersey would look the best if I were to sponsor either a girls hockey or ringette team? What do you think of the patch on the shoulders?

I'm just thinking out loud. Not committing but would honestly love to do this.

Don’t walk distracted through a parkade.

In my earlier videos, I showed you what to do in the lower level, and in the first part of this middle level series, I showed you where the best place to park.

This one is about leaving.

Walking back out to your vehicle and heading back onto the street is when awareness still matters.

Phone away.
Keys ready.
Keep moving.
Keep scanning.

Watch your corners. Listen to what’s around you. Give yourself time and distance to react if something doesn’t feel right.

Awareness gives you options.

Take care. Stay safe.

Not every relationship is meant to break you down.

Real love should make you feel safe, respected, supported, and valued.

You should never have to shrink yourself to keep someone else comfortable.
You should never feel controlled, silenced, or emotionally exhausted just to “keep the peace.”

Healing is possible.
Confidence can return.
And happiness is still waiting for you.

You deserve peace.
You deserve respect.
You deserve a life you love.

Awareness today can prevent heartbreak tomorrow.

Not me. Not today. Not ever.

Not every unhealthy relationship leaves visible scars.

Sometimes it slowly convinces you that your feelings do not matter.
That you are “too emotional.”
That your reactions are the problem.

Over time, emotional invalidation can make someone question their own thoughts, instincts, and self-worth.

Healthy communication listens.
Healthy love does not dismiss, mock, or minimize how you feel.

If you constantly feel unheard, blamed, or emotionally exhausted, pay attention to that feeling.

Awareness today can prevent heartbreak tomorrow.

Not me. Not today. Not ever.

Not all intimidation leaves bruises.

Sometimes it is the look.
The tone.
The silence after an argument.
The feeling that you have to change your behavior just to avoid conflict.

If someone makes you feel constantly anxious, fearful, or unsafe in your own home, that is not healthy love.

Real relationships should bring peace, trust, and security — not fear.

Awareness today can prevent heartbreak tomorrow.

Not me. Not today. Not ever.

Not every unhealthy relationship leaves bruises.

Sometimes it leaves anxiety.
Fear.
Walking on eggshells.
Apologizing for things that were never your fault to begin with.

If you constantly feel responsible for keeping the peace, shrinking yourself, or avoiding conflict at all costs… it may be time to look at the relationship differently.

Healthy love should feel safe, respectful, and supportive — not emotionally exhausting.

Awareness today can prevent heartbreak tomorrow.

Not me. Not today. Not ever.

Financial control does not always start with yelling, threats, or violence.

Sometimes it starts quietly.
Questioning purchases.
Needing permission.
Feeling guilty for spending your own money.
Losing independence one small step at a time.

Healthy relationships are built on trust, respect, and freedom — not control.

Awareness today can prevent heartbreak tomorrow.

Not me. Not today. Not ever.

Today I had the privilege of spending time with an incredible group through Nursing Home Without Walls at the Kenneth E. Spencer Memorial Home.

We talked about something I believe every woman deserves:
awareness, confidence, boundaries, prevention, and practical self-defence skills that work in the real world.

One of the biggest things I always try to remind people is this:
self-defence is not about being the strongest person in the room.
It is about awareness, mindset, confidence, and making good decisions early.

Thank you to everyone who attended today for being so welcoming, engaged, and open throughout the session. The conversations, questions, and participation were amazing.

And a huge thank you to Nursing Home Without Walls for having me in and for everything you do to support seniors in our community.

The best time to learn how to protect yourself is now.

Not me. Not today. Not ever!

Same house.
Same table.
Same people.

But sometimes phones quietly pull families into completely different worlds.

Real connection is eye contact.
Conversation.
Laughter.
Stories.
Moments your kids will actually remember years from now.

The best memories are not found on a screen.
They are sitting right in front of us.

Put the phones down once in a while.
Talk.
Laugh.
Connect.

Because real connection still matters.

Not me. Not today. Not ever!
