Caring for residents I treat as my own can sometimes feel very exhausting. Some days feel especially heavy on the heart, but moments like this remind me why I keep going. ❤️‍🩹
This family created a montage video for my birthday, made up of moments shared between me and their mom during my visits with her, with a song they composed themselves that reflects our relationship.🫂 Gifts like this are the most meaningful. 🎁 It really made me realize how far I’ve come in building a genuine bond between us.💞

To all Caregivers, caregiving asks a lot of your heart, but it also gives meaning you can’t always put into words. We’ve got this.💪🏼🫀

This afternoon, we kept the Paris theme going. We colored pictures of Momo’s daughter and her cousin in Paris, which made the activity even more engaging and fun. 🖍️ We followed it up with a slice of cake I had yesterday for my birthday. 🍰 What a lovely Sunday!

Mme Laniel a toujours été une femme très soignée, qui aimait se faire coiffer et faire ses ongles et elle l’est encore aujourd’hui. Chaque semaine, je m’assure qu’elle soit à son meilleur. C’est le minimum qu’on puisse offrir à nos dames : un peu de poupounage 🥰🥰

While Momo’s daughter is in Paris and we’re totally jealous! I treated us to a little tea party, pretending we were there with her. 🇫🇷 We enjoyed a delicious lavender and blueberry scone with a London Fog tea, which Momo helped me prepare. 🫖🥐 As we sipped, we looked through the photos her daughter sent from Paris, all while listening to Parisian music in the background. 🎶 Such a lovely little date we had together!🥰

Think of dementia like a broken GPS.

The person is still “driving”, still thinking, deciding, and trying to make sense of things. But the system that helps them orient to time, place, and situation isn’t working reliably.

Sometimes the directions are correct.
Sometimes they’re outdated.
And sometimes they’re completely off.
But to them, it still sounds right.
So they may feel confident about where they’re going even if they’re headed in the wrong direction.
When we argue or correct, it can feel like someone insisting the GPS is wrong… while it’s the only guide they have.

A helpful shift:
They’re not choosing the wrong path, they’re following faulty directions.
Support isn’t about grabbing the wheel. It’s about gently helping reroute, with patience and reassurance along the way.
