Hello my name is Kate, I am a local/licensed pet and home care provider in the town of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. I also service the surrounding area such as those on farms and acrea

ges. If you are going on vacation and require your beloved pets and home to be cared for, I'd love to give you that "peace of mind" feeling that you are in good hands. My many years of experience as a pet guardian, as well as in the horse industry and pet food supply industry have made me an asset in this area. I mostly do daily drop in visits to care for pets/homes however, periodically I am available to do overnight care where I stay in your home. If you're requiring someone to stay overnight at your home with your pets, I need a lot of advanced notice as my schedule books up quickly. I am NOT able to offer boarding of pets at my own home. If you have questions, please feel free to reach out to me via cell phone: 403-818-2512 or Facebook Messenger. I am also an Insured horseback riding instructor here in Canada. I grew up in the East Kootenays in BC, Canada, nestled in the majestic Rocky Mountains. Horses have been a great source of joy for me since as early as I can recall. I owe much to horses especially my late gelding Shay who I named Shay’s Rainbow Connection after. Shay and I were partners for 25 glorious years. He passed away on October 11, 2018 at the advanced age of 34. He was my teacher, partner, best friend and heart horse. Shay continues to connect me with people, horses and other animals of all walks of life even in spirit. It’s in his memory that I would like to connect with you and your beloved horses and other animals. I’ve had a number of mentors/instructors over the years. Each has brought forth different experiences to my equestrian journey. I’m honestly grateful to each and every one of them for how they have helped me to transform into the rider and horsewoman I’ve become. Since June of 2016 I’ve been enrolled in the In Hand Therapy Course. This course has been utterly life altering and Shay was the main reason I joined. It’s truly some of the best money I have ever spent. It’s not only taught me so many invaluable things about my dear equine partners, its taught me even more about myself. I’m a forever student of the horse, and strive to give them the best I can ALWAYS. If you’re interested in Dressage as well as learning In Hand work with your horses(s), I may be the instructor you’re looking for. However, I’m very willing and happy to work with western riders as well. My interest lies in equine biomechanics as well as the use of intuition, science and compassion when working with horse and rider. It’s my sincere wish to mentor and work with students who are searching for a more intimate and long term committed relationship with their equine partner(s). I realize and respect that not everyone is in a position to keep their horses for a lifetime, yet it’s my intention to show those who are open to long term committed partnerships with their horses that it is a journey worth embarking on. One thing I’m very willing to do, is work with horses that are having lameness issues. Many of these horses are cast aside because their guardians and caregivers are lost as to what to do with these horses. Not all horses can be brought back to serviceable soundness however, many can. If you have a horse that is unsound and you hold optimism that they may still be able to find soundness again please feel free to reach out. I may possibly be able to assist in helping you to restore some degree of soundness in your equine friend(s) so that they can live a more purposeful and enriching life once again. I have 33 years of riding experience and have owned horses for 32 years. I’m willing to work with horses of all disciplines and breeds as well as riders of all ages and disciplines. For the right candidate(s) I MAY be willing to teach them Dressage as well as In Hand work with my own personal mare Stella. Whether you have your own horse(s) that you’d like to take lessons with, or if you’re interested in working with Stella and I please reach out for more details about what would be required to begin the process. I look forward to assisting you and your equine partners in finding a connection to your heart centers and a deeper meaning to your relationship together. Thank you for visiting Kate's Compassionate Critter Care and Shay’s Rainbow Connection!

Good morning Rocky Mountain House followers, 🤩🐎

For any of you who are comfortable answering, who in this area has an acreage?

Do you board horses at your acreage?

Would you consider boarding horses at your acreage if it is set up for a horse?

The reason for my inquiry is that one of my equine-connections is looking for a place to keep a horse. The place needs to be no more than 20 minutes drive from Central Rocky Mountain House. The person wants access to visit their horse once or twice a day and is willing to exchange the ability to keep their horse on property for the willingness to help keep an eye on the property especially when the residents of the property are away.
This person is mature, respectful and an experienced horse person.

If you know of a place please direct message me so that I may put my equine connection in contact with you. Thank you very much.

The Universe/Divine works in magical and mysterious ways🙏🏻✨. The power of social media and of prayer can truly bring goodness into the forefront of life.

Yesterday, this sweet little cat came to my house. I had to firmly encourage her to leave hoping she would go home. This morning, she was still at my place. I was able to get her to come to me and safely secure her in my cat crate within my garage until I was able to get a hold of her guardian. ❤️

Thankfully her guardian had made a Facebook post that I saw which confirmed to me that the cat that I had around my home was in fact her cat. There was a happy reunion a couple of hours ago of this sweet little cat named Cookie back to her family. Charlotte her mother gave me permission to share this happy ending. It is my wish to maintain curiosity and compassion in these situations. This sweet little cat is spayed and unfortunately just snuck out of the house. Her guardian Charlotte was gracious in receiving some of my wisdom which included getting her cat a collar and name tag in case she ever snuck out again. 🙏🏻🥰

Savvy our beautiful house Cat wears a collar and name tag for this very reason. Thank the good Lord Savvy has been well trained to avoid sneaking out of the house. However, I do what I can to set her up for success because, sometimes things happen. Thank you to those of you who seek to understand through curiosity instead of always jumping to conclusions. I understand that it’s hard sometimes to maintain compassion. There are many people in our community who continue to let their cats outside thinking that it is safe for them to wander our neighborhoods. As a cat guardian and pet care provider it is in my value system and belief that cats in Rocky need to stay in the house or a secure cat patio. It is our responsibility to help to keep them safe. Farm cats are a whole other ball of wax. We let farm cats wander properties to keep us free from mice. I wish to make it clear that there is a difference and although, some may agree to disagree with me that is OK. This is my page and I wish to share my personal experiences with having cats in my life. Bless all of you and your beloved pets. Thank you for doing what you can to keep them safe. 🤩🙏🏻🕉️☀️🐕🐈🐎

Are you interested in completing a canine and feline first aid course? 🐈‍⬛🐕🐈🐕🤗

I have become acquainted with an instructor that is offering a mixed course for both canines and felines here in Rocky on Sunday May 3rd. I have just signed up to take this course. If any of my local followers and pet care clients would like to take this course alongside me, please let me know.

I hope that everyone had a blessed Happy Easter with loved ones. 🐰😊

This last week was pretty special. Between spending time with family, friends and pet care clients it was a cherished holiday indeed. I had the opportunity to say goodbye to a beloved dog walking client on Good Friday. This pup’s health had taken a difficult turn that required him to be set free over the rainbow bridge. He was a spectacular dog. His name was Benlee and his mom Stephanie and dad Karl welcomed me over to have a coffee and visit with the sweet boy the day before he “went home”. We laughed, we cried and above all we shared memories of the sweet Benlee 🐕🙏🏻✨🕉️ 🌈.

Then on Saturday evening my beloved Todd and I went out with our friends to sing karaoke at BJ’s pub for their Easter event. You will see our friend Richelle and I wearing our rabbit ears 🐰🤩! Thank you to Bob and Sandi of “Simply The Best Karaoke” for the beautiful hand beaded hat that I won. I will cherish it! 💕

Every day is a gift. Cherish those that matter most to you. Take time for yourself and commit to the process of life. God bless all of you! 🙏🏻🕉️✨

Shetland Sheepdogs also referred to as Sheltie’s, are one of my favourite breeds in the whole world. I have been blessed to be loved by two of them in my life. The late Katniss and Brady. One day, my husband Todd and I may welcome another one into our lives. Until then, I cherish the time I have with my client’s dogs when I walk them and sit with them. 🤩

Yesterday, while driving home I saw a woman walking a blue merle coloured Sheltie on the pathway along River Road. I turned my vehicle around with the hopes of being able to say hello before she got too far down the pathway between the trees. By the time I turned around they were too far away down the path. Regardless, I had an ear to ear smile watching the little dog trot alongside their guardian🥰 . I’ve only seen three maybe four sheltie’s in Rocky Mountain House since moving here. They are such intelligent and bright little spirits. I would love it if I had the opportunity to cross paths with one of these little souls on one of our walks. Have a wonderful weekend! 🤩💃🏻🕺🏻🐕✨

My friend Connie made a posting on one of our local pages today. You can see a screenshot of it below. I don’t care if you smoke ci******es, what I do care about is if you clean up after yourself. Please feel free to share and spread the word. Dogs are notorious for eating all sorts of garbage, eating cigarette butts doesn’t need to be one of those things. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Shay’s Rainbow Connection - Kate’s Story and Misson Statement.

Hello, my name is Katrina Duncan however, please call me Kate 😀. I’m an Insured riding instructor through CapriCMW Insurance Services Ltd. here in Canada.

I grew up in Cranbrook BC, Canada, nestled in the majestic Rocky Mountains. However, I’ve resided in Alberta with my amazing husband Dave as well as our beloved animals since August of 2000. Horses have been a great source of joy for me since as early as I can recall. Horses have breathed life into my spirit/soul. As a matter of fact they make me feel ALIVE!
