maskihkiy provides counselling, land-based healing programs, consulting, workshops, & kihtehayak (Elders) services. our kihtehayah (Elder) Wiisug Richard Wright (Leech Lake Anishinaabe) taught us that medicine is anything that helps a person to heal and live a good life. our team uses both traditional and contemporary Indigenous and land-based approaches to holistic wellness to support individuals

, families, communities, and organizations in miyo pimâtisiwin (living a good life). we do this through consultation and workshops that incorporate Indigenous pedagogies and experiential learning. each team member brings unique strengths and gifts, including expertise in Indigenous approaches to counselling and trauma work, decolonizing and Indigenizing organizations including strategic planning and program evaluation, reconciliation initiatives and cultural education, and holistic nutrition. maskihkiy wellness is based out of Calgary, Alberta. our team is available to travel both nationally and internationally.

we are not separate from the land, we are the land. 🌿

everything that makes up our bodies comes from it: the water we drink, the plants and animals that nourish us, the elements that sustain life. our survival, our health, and our wellbeing are inseparable from the wellbeing of the land.

within Indigenous ways of knowing, this goes beyond metaphor and into relationship.

as we remember Earth Day, it's a reminder that caring for the land is also caring for ourselves.

Earth Day invites us to move beyond awareness and into relationship. 🌎

clean water, healthy soil, and fresh air aren't just resources—they're medicine.

within iyiniwak Indigenous worldviews, caring for the land means living in right relationship and supporting land back; the return of Indigenous stewardship, responsibility, and connection to land.

🌿 take a moment today to learn whose land you are on, spend time outside, and consider how you can give back to what sustains you.

some days, we just need a gentle reminder to get through. ❤️

take the one that speaks to you, and carry it with you. and if it feels right, share it with someone who might need it too.

trauma lives in the body, and so does resilience.

your ancestors lived, adapted, loved, and found ways forward and that knowledge is still with you. ✨

maskihkiy is a Cree (y) word for medicine, but its meaning extends far beyond an english understanding of medicine as treatment or cure. 🌿

within iyiniwak Indigenous ways of knowing, medicine exists in the land, water, community, culture, and our relationships. it's something we live with, learn from, and carry throughout our lives.

at maskihkiy wellness, we support people in (re)connecting with their medicine through culturally rooted, land-based, and relational approaches to care. ❤️

Bill S-228 is making progress! ❤️

on February 24, maskihkiy wellness onîsôhkâmakêwak joined the National Day of Action to support Bill S-228, standing alongside survivors and Survivors Circle for Reproductive Justice.

our team showed up in multiple ways — through ceremony in Ottawa, gatherings in Sioux Lookout, a walk in Saskatoon, and a virtual support space.

Bill S-228 unanimously passed the second reading and is moving through the committee phase. we are honoured to support this work and hold space for the voices leading it. 🫶

for those who don't know: Bill S-228 is an Act to amend the Criminal Code in Canada to criminalize forced and coerced sterilization procedures.

you are not broken. ❤️

within iyiniwak psychologies, we can understand what mainstream systems often call “symptoms” as conversations rather than signs of dysfunction.

these conversations come through the mind, body, heart, and spirit to guide us back toward balance, wholeness, and wellness. they are not something to silence or fix, but something to listen to and engage.

despite colonial attempts to eradicate our languages, they have survived through kihtehayak (knowledge carriers), families, and community.

today, we honour the strength and determination of those who have carried and continue to carry our languages forward—and the generations reclaiming them now.

✨ how will you get involved today? ✨
