Parents and caregivers check it out!

Here is the answer to a common question we often get asked by parents - “How many words should my child be saying?” - and as you can see, it’s quite a range! 🗣️

The smaller number is considered the milestone (what 90% of children do at that age) and the larger number is considered the average (what 50% of children do at that age).

At age two, children should also begin combining two words to make a short phrase (e.g., “Mommy up”, “Daddy go”, “red car”). Stay tuned for our next post with a helpful strategy to help your little one start combining words! 😊

P.S. Remember our earlier post “What Counts as a Word?” Keep that in mind when considering if your child is meeting their language milestones!

Contact us today if you have any questions or concerns about your little one’s speech and language development - we are here to help! 🌱

Wouldn't it be great if we could all hear perfectly with our hearing aids right away!? According to *Erber's auditory skill hierarchy there is a rehabilitation process that includes development of these 4 steps in order to achieve our highest level of success. Practice, practice, practice and move through these 4 stages!

The ear's only job is to get the sound to your brain- what happens at your brain is just as important as what happens at your ear!

When was the last time you got your hearing tested? You should be getting a hearing test at least once every two years. However, if you are over the age of 60 or have a history of hearing loss in your family, you may need to get your ears tested annually. It's also important to get a hearing test if you notice any changes in your hearing ability.

🚫 Considering using earbuds as hearing aids? Apple's AirPods could revolutionize hearing support, bridging the gap between hearing loss and accessible, affordable, and stigma-free solutions for both older and younger generations. But there are downsides you should take into account:

1. Not Health Canada-approved: Unlike hearing aids, earbuds are not Health Canada-approved for treating hearing loss. They're categorized as personal sound amplification products (PSAPs) and are not intended to compensate for hearing impairment.

2. Limited effectiveness: Earbuds may only help with mild hearing loss and are ineffective for more severe cases.

3. Misinterpretation: Wearing earbuds can give off the wrong impression, potentially leading others to believe you're disinterested or unavailable.

4. Potential ear damage: Earbuds can damage your ears, especially if the volume is too high, and may push earwax deeper, potentially blocking hearing.

5. One-size-fits-all: Unlike hearing aids, earbuds are not customized to fit your unique hearing needs and can be uncomfortable for extended wear.

Instead of relying on earbuds, consider booking an appointment with us to explore proven solutions for treating hearing loss tailored to your needs. Don't compromise on your hearing health!

🧠 The truth about noise-cancelling headphones: Good for your ears, bad for your brain?
Noise-canceling headphones may protect your ears, but consistent use can alter your brain’s listening ability. Ideally, you should only use noise-cancelling headphones when you’re exposed to excess noise such as on trains, planes, or in a noisy city. However, in a quiet environment, you may be better off listening to the world around you.
