Detachment doesn’t mean giving up the things that you love. It means not being controlled by them. The Bhavagad Gītā tells us that freedom comes when we can show up fully for life, including our family, work, practice, even pleasures, without clinging to outcomes or fearing loss. (Perhaps easier said than done…). On the mat, we practice with each breath and posture, arriving, experiencing and then letting go. Gentle reminder for today: You can hold things lightly AND still love them deeply. “Let your concern be with action alone and never the fruits of action”. Bhagavad Gītā

While summer is generally my favourite season, I can honestly say that I love the cooler nights that we’ve had recently. I will be soaking up the last bit of August showing off our beautiful Canadian summers with family visiting from the UK. See you in September! 😉

This week I’ll be taking
a full week to pause, breathe, and actually rest. No classes, no planning — just space to recharge my body and spirit.

As much as I love guiding others through movement and mindfulness, I’m reminded that rest is part of the practice too. It’s okay to take a step back. It’s necessary.

Thank you for your patience and support. I’ll be back next week feeling renewed and ready to move with you again.

Until then, may you find your own moments of stillness and care.
See you soon,
K

Over the past couple of weeks we've spent some time exploring the obstacles on the path and some of the things that lead to our struggles. Below the surface of the challenges are the kleshas that feeds the obstacles- (think of the kleshas as the root and the obstacles, the branches and leaves). What nourishes the roots? The soil or Gunas.

Have you ever noticed that somedays you feel dull, heavy or unmotivated, while other days you feel clear and energized? This is the gunas in action.

Tamas – inertia, fog, resistance
Rajas – hustle, craving, overdrive
Sattva – clarity, ease, harmony

These energies constantly shift within us.
One of the gifts of yoga is that we learn to notice, and gently guide ourselves toward balance.

You don’t have to force peace. You can choose a sattvic practice like taking some time after waking to avoid your phone, sit in presence, meditate, breathe consciously before rush of the day begins.

Ok, I don't know about you but all this doom and gloom is getting to me. I know that yoga can help, so here's what I am suggesting...a daily yoga challenge for the month of February.

Now before you convince yourself that you don't have time for a daily practice- you actually do! Instead of scrolling, take a few moments, starting today, for a few minutes of yoga breathing, or postures, or a short sequence.

Don't worry, I've got it all set for you. I'll share a post daily to let you know what you can do, (or you can come up with your own yoga idea), for 28 days. What's in it for you? Well, I've done a yoga practice and regretted it, so there's that, you get to spend a few moments tapping into inner peace, short movement or breathing breaks, and you get a mental break from what's happening in the world around you. AND if you take part in the challenge and post pics of yourself doing the challenge, your name will get entered into a draw to win a lovely mini bolster- handmade with sustainable materials from Love My Mat. (I LOVE mine!!) The draw will take place in the 1st week of March. How to Join? Follow us, Post one photo daily of you doing your yoga and tag us using and caption your post!

DAY 1's Challenge

Set and Intention. Take a few moments to sit in a quiet spot and think about what this month. What do you need. How do you want feel at the end of the month? 🌟

At this time of year we hear about all the ways to make changes in our lives for the better, and don't get me wrong, goals are a good thing.

I have posted before that I don't choose to make resolutions because they tend to be difficult to keep and result in beating myself up...

If you find yourself falling into trap too, try something new. Set an intention, (or even a few).

Sadhana is a daily practice that you do for you, (remember self-care is not selfish...it is necessary for us to be able to engage in healthy relationships at work and at home), a practice to nurture your body and mind.

Maybe you move your body daily, through yoga, walking or other form of fitness that makes you feel good. It has to be something that you ENJOY doing or you won't do it! Your daily practice could also be meditation or a mindfulness practice, or other form of quietude that brings you peace.

Think of sadhana as if you were planting a seed that needs nurturing and care for daily.

What do you want more of in your life? What is your intention for this New Year?
Don't wait...now is the perfect time to begin your daily practice.

As this year closes and another one begins, remember that you are enough. Right now, as you are.

Tonight, reflect on all that you have accomplished, even if it's just that you have survived.

To mark the end of 2024, think of a word or phrase, an intention to represent the year ahead and see if you can feel it in your body. Say it out loud and write it down.

It's good to set intentions that challenge you but keep them attainable. Think of adding something into your life rather than taking something away.

What is important to you? What is something that you enjoy?

Practice gratitude for what was, and what is.

As Jonathan Lockwood Huie said, "Celebrate endings, for they precede new beginnings."

Goodbye and thank you for the gifts, the heartaches and the lessons 2024.

Peace, love, health and happiness. It
is the simple pleasures that I intend to seek in 2025.

Happy New Year
