For many of you who have practiced with me over the years, you know that I’ve never been a big believer in New Year’s resolutions.
This year, I’m moving even further away from that and closer to honouring the rhythm of nature.

January thus far has been an invitation to slow down.
To move in ways that support my nervous system.
To listen more closely to the subtle cues of my body.
To take time to reflect on the year that has passed and gently sense what I need moving forward into 2026.

I began the year with a soft, gentle yoga flow. After the rush of the holiday season, slowing down and spending time with myself felt intuitively right. Moving more deliberately allowed me to focus on alignment, sensation, and breath rather than rushing ahead or trying to predict what would come next.

I felt nourished, un-rushed, and steady.
Not depleted, but supported.

And this practice doesn’t end on the mat.

Over these past few weeks, I’ve also been stepping back from what drains me, certain habits, relationships, constant noise, social media and choosing instead what truly feeds my body and mind. Movement that feels supportive. Food that nourishes. Time with people who feel grounding.

Yoga, to me, is something to be lived.

As the months unfold, my intention is simple:
to let go of the "shoulds",
to honour what feels right,
and to continue choosing nourishment in all its forms.

No resolutions.
Just listening.

Looking forward to welcoming you back to class January 5, 2026.

Lately I’ve been noticing how much energy we spend trying to shape, predict, or control the outcome in practice, in conversations, in life.
And yet… the most beautiful moments usually arrive when we finally soften our grip. In fact, just two weeks ago I watched this unfold in the life of someone I love deeply. He had been wrestling with a decision, feeling torn and weighed down by the fear of disappointing someone else. Eventually, he chose to trust his heart and allowed that chapter to close. And almost immediately, within minutes, he received a phone call that opened the door to an incredible new adventure.
This week’s practice is an invitation to let go of the outcome.
To breathe into the unknown, to release the “shoulds,” and to open yourself to possibilities you couldn’t have planned.

In yoga, letting go isn’t giving up, it’s creating space.
Space for surprise.
Space for ease.
Space for grace to slip in quietly.

When we stop trying to control every detail, life has room to meet us in new and unexpected ways.

Come breathe, soften, and see what unfolds.
You might be surprised by what opens.

Maybe you can feel it, that shift into pouring out more energy than you refill. Life asks, work asks, our family life asks, and before we understand what is happening, our inner reserves quietly empty. This week’s invitation is to return to calm and clarity. To soften. To breathe deeper. To notice what drains you and to choose even for a moment to nourish instead. Yoga reminds us that replenishment isn’t a luxury…it is a lifeline. Every slow breath, every grounded pose, every pause between movements is a way saying: “I matter. My energy matters.” Join us this week and fill your cup. Let it overflow. Your body - your whole being will thank you.

Something I’m trying to help my beginner students understand,(well all students really!) is that yoga isn’t this outward performance and it certainly isn’t about perfection…(despite what most yoga posts tell us on socials). Yoga is for real people, with real bodies, who live real lives that are messy and imperfect. Yoga is something that we feel and live, whether we roll out a mat or not. Yoga invites us to make peace, not just in the world around us, but the world within us. It invites us to listen to whispers of the body, the quiet, the tender, the strong, open or tense, and to meet whatever is here with kindness. Making peace with what is doesn’t mean that we stop growing, in fact it means that we grow from a place of compassion, not comparison. It is here, in this peace that we can soften. We find freedom. Today, practice making peace with whatever version of yourself that is here now.

According to Ayurveda, we are in the Vata season, light, dry and cool. You might feel yourself feeling scattered, and less grounded. Both yoga and Ayurveda remind us that we come back into balance by inviting the opposite in. When life feels like air, we root to the earth, when thoughts are quick and constant, we slow and connect to breath. When our energy feels drained, we nourish deeply. This season is calling for warmth, steadiness and softness. This week let’s practice grounding the body to calm the mind. Whether in yin or a flow, can we slow the breath and move in ways that nourishes nervous system? Come home to body, breath and the quiet wisdom within.

Core is a funny one. We all have a different relationship with our core and it’s either love/hate. Well, we need our core to function and move well. Our backs, hips and pelvic floor pelvic are all impacted by our core. Our core is not just our “abs”. It’s a group of muscles, bones and tissue that truly supports us. There’s still room to join! We start tonight at 6pm.

Detachment doesn’t mean giving up the things that you love. It means not being controlled by them. The Bhavagad Gītā tells us that freedom comes when we can show up fully for life, including our family, work, practice, even pleasures, without clinging to outcomes or fearing loss. (Perhaps easier said than done…). On the mat, we practice with each breath and posture, arriving, experiencing and then letting go. Gentle reminder for today: You can hold things lightly AND still love them deeply. “Let your concern be with action alone and never the fruits of action”. Bhagavad Gītā
