Happy New Yearโ€™s Eve!

๐ŸŒŸ Most of us during this time of year may have some new yearโ€™s goals. For example, better health goals such as: finding better ways to cope with stress, diet, etc..

๐ŸŒŸ As you know trying to achieve good health is a participatory, and constant daily process of trying to fully embrace, + engage in all aspects of life: spiritually, mentally, emotionally, physically, socially. As well as, family and universally. A lifelong journey. Lol โ€ฆย

๐ŸŒŸ I would like to share some basic Ayurvedic tips that have helped me in my life!ย

Encourage good eating habits, + strong digestion by:

๐ŸŒŸ Starting your day with a light meal. Make your breakfast, light, warm, and nourishing. Your digestive system needs nourishing, warm foods in the morning to stimulate digestion, but not too much. Digestive fire is at its peak in the morning. Anything light for your digestive system, is better for weight loss, and it also adds nutrients rather than empty calories. I enjoy eating stewed apples with my breakfast because it is light, lots of fibre, easy to digest, helps with elimination, contains vitamins, trace minerals, and anti oxidant flavonoids.ย

๐ŸŒŸ If you are hungry in the morning, or get hungry late morning, try adding oatmeal, quinoa flakes, semolina, or cream of wheat to you breakfast. Add some prunes, raisins, apples topped with spices such as cinnamon, or cardamon.ย

๐ŸŒŸLunch time meal should be the largest of the day. Your digestive fire, is the strongest this time of day. Eat a hearty, nourishing, meal. For example, eating grains such as millet, rye, quinoa, or amaranth, and proteins such as mung dhal, red lentils, are so good.

๐ŸŒŸDinner meal, should be smaller than lunch. The digestive fire, is lower, and you do not want to over eat, and overload your body before sleeping. Meals like: vegetables, yummy dhals, whole grains are good choices.ย

๐ŸŒŸFollow an appropriate diet routine. It depends on our prakruiti (constitution) and vikruiti (current state of imbalance).ย

๐ŸŒŸAvoid cold drinks, + drinking too much fluids during or after food can inhibit digestion. Kindle agni before + after eating. Use appropriate herbs as per your constitution.

๐Ÿ’› โ€œCalmness, gentleness, silence, self-restraint and purity: these are all the disciplines of the mind.โ€ย

PART 4 of 4:ย Ayurveda and Acid Refluxย

๐ŸŒฟ Please read part 1 and 2, and 3 on acid reflux and Ayurveda to fully understand this post. Thank you.ย

๐ŸŒฟ So, in the last posts we touched base on the basics of acid reflux, and how acid reflux is misdiagnosed. Again, a lot of cases it is caused by insufficient acid production, not excess. So, it is important to see whether it is insufficient acid production or excess.ย

๐ŸŒฟ Letโ€™s dig in more on this topicโ€ฆ.Constipation, or loose stools alter the lining of the intestinal tract. In turn, this creates undigested toxins being reabsorbed from the intestines into the liver, called the enteric cycle.ย

๐ŸŒฟ As the undigested toxins are reabsorbed into the liver, it can become congested, and thicken. So, in turn there is congested bile in the gallbladder. If the bile becomes congested, acid in the stomach will remain, because it is waiting for adequate bile flow to buffer it. Bile buffers stomach acid.ย

๐ŸŒฟ Furthermore, if bile production does not reach the necessary levels to buffer the stomach acid, then the acid can stay in the stomach too long. This can lead to heartburn (excess acid). If this issue continues, the lack of bile flow will cause irritation in the stomach, and the stomach will eventually decrease acid production in order to protect itโ€™s lining. Too little, acid can causes harmful microbes such as H. Pylori. The lack of stomach acid, leads to stomach lining irritation, poor digestion, and an inability to digest foods properly like wheat!

Good afternoon,

๐Ÿ’“ Thank you for tuning into Part 3 of Ayurveda and Acid Reflux. Please read my other posts on acid reflux before reading this, to get the best informed about the topic. This is a basic review of how acid reflux is connected to emotional health...

๐Ÿ’“ We all know we need to learn how to manage stress, and worry. But what happens to the body if you keep pushing your feelings down?

๐Ÿ’“ Every physical manifestation connects to an emotional disturbance. Indigestion indicates gut level fear, anxiety, griping, grunting, and dread. As your (LES), + Esophagus, represents your throat chakra. This has to do with communication, how you communicate, and get your point across, this could mean you do not speak up enough, or the opposite that you talk too much, find balance in being able to communicate with discernment, and clarity. Your stomach represents your solar plexus which represents self - esteem, confidence, feeling in control of your life.ย

๐Ÿ’“ Lastly, with clients I focus on ingesting foods that are not contradicting in nature, and against your Prakruti. Looking at the unique body type of each individual, while examining the vikruti (current bodily imbalances).

๐Ÿ’“ Thank you, I hope everyone enjoyed this post. Stay tuned for the last Part 4 of 4 Ayurveda and acid reflux.

05/03/2023

๐ŸŒฟ Hello all! It has been a while since the last time I posted! Hope everyone is enjoying the spring sun, and yes summer is right around the corner, which means โ€ฆ.Pitta season is coming.ย

๐ŸŒฟ Please read my last post on Part 1 on Ayurvedic Tips for Acid reflux first.ย

๐ŸŒฟ The last post I mentioned that acid reflux according to Ayurveda is due to excess Pitta. But it may also be a sign of a Kapha imbalance as well. Many people have issues with acid reflux, but usually in most cases most acid reflux is caused by insufficient acid production, not excess. Excess Pitta is a sign of high stomach acid, and Kapha indigestion indicates low metabolism and mucous blockage.ย

๐ŸŒฟ Moreover, when your stomach acid is too low, indigestion arises, and food stagnates. Hence, food that sits too long in the stomach regurgitates. Which is why ingesting antacids may make the problem worse.ย

๐ŸŒฟ Furthermore, stomach acid functions to increase absorption of iron, and calcium, activate pepsinogen, and slay bacteria in the food we eat.ย

๐ŸŒฟ Acid production is activated by the release of gastrin, a hormone secreted by the stomach in response to stomach distension, hypercalcemia, partially digested amino acids and proteins in the stomach, and triggers vagus nerve excitation.ย

๐ŸŒฟ Acid reflux is an indication that the stomach is not able to preform the proper function of accepting and absorbing food and, then moving the food downward.ย

๐ŸŒฟ Please contact a health care professional when diagnosing acid reflux, because there are several factors that cause acid reflux. Treatment should include, getting to the root causes, repairing digestion, reducing inflammation, redirecting food downwards, and devising an adequate diet plan suitable for you specific constitution/vitiation within the body.ย

๐ŸŒฟ Thank you for reading on Ayurveda and Acid Reflux Part 2. Stay tuned for Ayurveda and Acid Reflux Part 3!

Thank you

01/09/2023

๐Ÿ”ฅAcid reflux is caused by the relaxation or weakness in the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) valve, between the stomach and the LES. When the valve between the stomach and esophagus opens for too long, it permits acid in the stomach to flow back into the esophagus.ย

๐Ÿ”ฅAyurvedic tips to help with acid reflux:
ย
๐Ÿ”ฅThe following foods create (ama) toxins in the body which results in acid reflux. Avoid junk food, processed meat, frozen foods, fermented foods, and curd.

๐Ÿ”ฅAvoid excessive tea, coffee, and carbonated or alcoholic drinks.

๐Ÿ”ฅAvoid sour, salty, and spicy foods, oily and rich gravies.ย

๐Ÿ”ฅFocus on eating on time, and avoid erratic eating habits. Eat meals in a relaxed environment.ย

๐Ÿ”ฅAvoid cold drinks, drink room temperature fluids. Sipping warm water during meals will help with digestion and absorption of food.ย

๐Ÿ”ฅEat meals in small proportions, do not overeat. Avoid snacking, eat when you are hungry.ย

๐Ÿ”ฅIncorporate herbs into your diet like cumin, fennel, coriander, turmeric, cardamon, basil, hing (asafetida).ย

๐Ÿ”ฅDaily, proper exercise, and physical activity is good according to your prakruti and vikruti.

๐Ÿ”ฅKeep your head elevated with a good pillow while sleeping.ย

๐Ÿ”ฅLastly, with clients I focus on ingesting foods that are not contradicting in nature, and against your Prakruti. Looking at the unique body type of each individual, while examining the vikruti (current bodily imbalances). Focus on eating foods that are suited for your body and lifestyle. In Ayurveda, the acid reflux is an aggravation or imbalance of the Pitta dosha.ย

Thank you.๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ’›

๐ŸŒŸ Letโ€™s start off the New Year right and go through some of the Ayurvedic tips to incorporate for the New Year. Please read last post!

2.) Try and encourage good eating habits, and strong digestion by following the basic tips to incorporate at home:

Leave time in between meals to fully digest your food, leave 4-6 hours between meals.ย

Eat dinner early, do not eat after 6 or 7 pm at the latest. Body is working to burn off toxins after 10 pm.ย

Make sure lunch is the largest meal of the day. Eat at regular times daily. Digestive strength is connected to the solar cycle.ย

Sip small amounts of CCF tea (cumin, coriander, fennel), during meals, produces necessary enzymes to aid with digestion.ย

Eat a diet of light, simple, easily digestible, sattvic foods, helps calm nervous system.ย

Eat when you are hungry, and be fully present when eating. Follow a consistent daily routine. There is a connection between food, mood and digestion.ย

Follow an appropriate exercise routine, depends on our prakriti (constitution) and vikriti (current state of balance).ย

Avoid cold drinks, and drinking too much fluids during or after food can inhibit digestion.

Kindle agni before and after eating. Use appropriate herbs as per your constitution, and current state of imbalance.ย

Cleanse the body. Cleanse gives the physiology a chance to detox, repair, and regenerate the tissues, while supporting agni throughout the body. This helps honour the bodyโ€™s natural intelligence.ย

Hope you enjoyed these basic tips! Stay tuned for more...
