With Thanksgiving this past weekend, I’ve been reflecting a lot on gratitude. Cross-culturally, autumn is a time for harvest celebrations - a time to appreciate bounty and to share it with others, to come together and enjoy the benefits of our earlier seeding and tending.
2025 has been a lot. Politically, climate catastrophically, personally, financially - folks are being hit from all directions. It’s easy to spin out in the 24 hour news reel, plenty of things to be anxious, rageful, grief-stricken or depressed about. But the science on gratitude practices is so very clear - bringing attention to that which we appreciate and are thankful for is powerfully supportive to our systems. Not that gratitude magically saves those suffering from grave injustice, systemic inequity, disaster - but for those of us with the privilege to have more to be grateful for - we might let it regulate us, restore us, and spur us on to the small actions that shift the needle in more positive directions.
This season of giving thanks, I am leaning into huge, epic, heart-felt gratitude for all of you. ❤️
