September 29, 1947 – February 16, 2026

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Olga Darnell (Trenholm) Bateman, born September 29, 1947, in Sackville, New Brunswick, to the late Jerald Edward Trenholm and Mamie Clementine (Tufts) Trenholm. Olga passed away on February 16, 2026, at the age of 78.

Olga was a deeply devoted Christian woman whose faith guided her life. She found great joy in worship and drew strength and comfort from her relationship with God throughout her life.

She will be sadly missed by her three sons: Daryn Bateman; John “Bill” (Sandra) Bateman; and Robert (Elena) Bateman. She was predeceased by her former husband and the father of their sons, Arthur Winston “Dougie” Bateman.

Olga also leaves behind her beloved siblings: Laura (Wylie) Estabrooks, Sydney Trenholm, Cora Sears, Carson (Peggy) Trenholm, Ray (Lisa) Trenholm, and Laurina (Dwayne Fillmore) Trenholm. She was predeceased by her infant brother, Jerald Jr. Trenholm.

She was a proud and loving grandmother to Brandi Waye (Jay) Kirby and Montana MacKay, and she cherished her many nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in her heart.

Olga had a deep love for the outdoors. She enjoyed long walks along the shore, snowshoeing in winter, kayaking, and canoeing. She adored all animals, but in particular her cats and dogs throughout the years. A breast cancer survivor, she was an active and passionate member of the breast cancer awareness dragon boat team, 'tit Bateau, participating in numerous paddling competitions across Canada. She found strength and fellowship through annual breast cancer support retreats, which meant a great deal to her.

Creativity flowed naturally through Olga’s life. She loved arts and crafts and was gifted with a creative spirit. At the age of 50, she decided to pursue another passion — music. Beginning with the guitar, she went on to master the autoharp, mandolin, and keyboards. She became an accomplished musician and was invited to play with various local seniors’ musical groups. She especially loved playing and singing with her dear friends and her sister, Laura... moments that brought her immense joy. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved sister, aunt, and friend, Patty Glencross, on the evening of February 13th, 2026.

Patty was born the second child of her father, Alex Thornton Glencross and mother, Doris (Russell) Glencross, in Little Shemogue, New Brunswick.

Patty was highly educated in Business Administration and the Sciences. She did her Dietetics Internship in Halifax at the Old Infirmary, She attended MacDonald College and Guelph University. She taught for a period of time at Mt. Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick. She worked in numerous medical facilities throughout the country and with private consulting companies. She taught Tourism Hospitality at Mount St. Vincent University in Halifax, before moving on to care for her father in his elder years, with much love, fortitude, selflessness and grace, (and the odd mutter of annoyance and a hint of stubborn resolve). She was incredibly proud of his service to his country in the Canadian Armed Forces during WWII and loved him dearly.

Patty took her duties as Auntie very seriously. She adored her nieces and nephews and was known to spoil them when their moms weren't looking.

She was an avid rescuer of her much loved p***y cats, many of whom found their way to her doorstep on the advice of their friends, for a warm bed and a full tummy and never left. She was a self-proclaimed cat lady, and proud of it.

She loved reading, particularly mysteries. She wrote amazing stories and letters, and a birthday card turned into an afternoon when it came from her, a story written in cursive tucked inside. She loved playing cards with siblings and neighbours, church lunches and socials with friends, her kitties, a sit on the porch, a good cup of tea with too much milk at the beloved family cottage by the sea, and a long chat even more.

She adored her siblings. Always a letter writer, with the advent of messenger chats and texts, her communication with them was daily and often.

She was predeceased by her parents Alex and Doris, her infant twin sister Diane, her brothers Tony and Pippy. She is survived by her brother Johnny (Linda) Glencross and sister Cathy (Roger) Merrick, sister in law Catherine Glencross, sister in law Gerry Glencross, and her nieces and nephews Tanya, Juanita, Christopher, Jenny, Mandy, Becca and Christa and many Great nieces and nephews.

Her family would like to thank her sister in law Catherine Glencross for her care, especially in recent months.

Arrangements are under the care and guidance of Jones Funeral Home, Port Elgin and Sackville, NB. Cremation has taken place and a private ceremony will be held for family at a later date.

Donations in her memory can be made to the St. Luke's Anglican Church in Baie Verte, New Brunswick or an animal shelter of your choice.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of John Herman Wells, 76, of Moncton, and formerly of Point de Bute, NB, on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. Born in Sackville, John was a son of the late Herman and Elizabeth (Smillie) Wells.

John was an auto mechanic with Lounsbury Truck Division for 31 years. He enjoyed playing pranks on his co-workers, especially his trademark, "sardines in the locker", which he has denied doing to this very day. He was a kind and generous man, a devoted husband, father and grandfather. John was very taken by his furry friend, Patches, who quickly took over control of the home and was happy to share John's meals. His greatest regret was that he had not been able to drive Route 66 in his retirement.

John will be dearly missed by the love of his life, his wife of 51 years, Kathy (nee Mahoney) Wells, Moncton; two children, Cheryl (Ryan) McGibbon, Winnipeg, MB and Tom (Lacey Donnelly) Wells, Moncton; grandchildren, Nolan and Madden Donnelly; his siblings, Bill Wells, Verna Frew, Betty Anne Stathis, Sheila Sweeney, Charles Wells, Margaret Murdock, Lorna Wells, and Jim Wells, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Vivien Catherine Hicks

Vivien Hicks (née Beach) was born on November 4, 1931, in Ottawa, Ontario, and passed away peacefully in Toronto on February 5, 2026.

Predeceased by her beloved husband, Cecil, Vivien leaves behind a loving family who were the great joy of her life. From her first marriage to Eldon Hay, she was the proud mother of Keith (Susan), Heather (Bill), Ron (Hilaire), and Nancy, grandmother of Mari (Che), Lindsay (Nuni), Sandy (Kayla), Cédric and Elias, and great-grandmother of Shasta and Sebastian. She also leaves behind her brother “Bud”, her cousins Barb Beach and the Sullivan family (Mary, Marg, Cathy, Christie and Jane), and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews.

Vivien graduated from Ontario Ladies’ College and Ottawa Normal School, and was particularly proud to complete a Bachelor of Music degree from Mount Allison University at age 50.

She spent most of her adult life in Sackville, New Brunswick where she was an active and valued member of the community. She was instrumental in fundraising and establishing a kindergarten program years before it was adopted by the public system. Later she taught elementary school and was known as “Mrs. Music” at Sackville Elementary school. She inspired generations of students as a private piano teacher, sharing both technical skill and a lifelong love of music. Vivien served for many years as organist and choir director at Sackville United Church, and later attended St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. She was generous with her time and energy, and volunteered on several boards and was very active in her community.

Her children were her pride and joy, and her dedication as a mother was evident in so many ways. Whether it was driving them to music lessons, basketball and hockey games, or knitting or sewing a special item, or staying up late Christmas Eve to create the magic of Christmas, one wonders when she slept!

“Viv” was, like her name, fun, lively and vivacious. She enjoyed playing games and cards, or instigating food fights and would be the first one to spit a watermelon seed out directed at another. She loved connecting with others and took great pleasure in entertaining and spending time with friends.

She first met Cecil at the Sackville Curling Club, and that became their second home. In retirement, the two loved travelling, dancing, their dogs (first Sport, then Rosie) and spending time at Hicks Beach.

In 2018, Vivien moved to Christie Gardens in Toronto, where her musical skills flourished. Soon after her arrival, she carried on the leadership of the Christie Chorale, became a proud Concerts in Care “Ambassador” (and helped bring other music to Christie Gardens), and hosted a weekly sing-along that brought joy and connection to many in the nursing floor community. A lasting legacy is the Yamaha grand piano that has a place of honour in the auditorium – she was determined to get a great instrument that visiting musicians would want to come and play – and initiated a process where many came together to make that happen. An avid ‘kitchen’ bridge player, she was also known for her sharp mind, enthusiasm, and warm companionship.

Generosity and creating community were two of her strongest qualities. She was often the first to welcome a new neighbour and regularly reached out to those in need. Just by walking by her Christie Gardens door, which she kept decorated and changed regularly, you could see first-hand her sense of fun and commitment to community – celebrating holidays, honouring Remembrance Day/Mother’s Day/Father’s Day, acknowledging Pride Day or Canada Day, or simply bringing a smile to the faces of residents and staff alike.

Over the years Vivien enjoyed painting, various crafts, attending Blue Jays games with her sons, and watching sports (especially “the curling”, which she followed with great interest and delight).
She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Donations in her memory may be made to Concerts in Care Ontario (www.concertsincareontario.com) or to a charity of your choice.

Arrangements are under the care and supervision of Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge Street, Sackville. Honouring her wishes, cremation has taken place and Vivien will be laid to rest in the Four Corners Cemetery, Sackville, at a later date.

Sharing of memories and condolences may be sent to the family by visiting the online memorial at www.jonesfuneralhome.ca or through the Jones Funeral Home page.
