If you are feeling stressed, overwhelmed, anxious, unhappy and unfulfilled…if your relationships are crap and you hate your job….if the state of the world is affecting you negatively….you are supposed to not try to make it better…because somehow that’s empowering?!

I get the pull away from needing to make a New Years resolution because improving your life doesn’t need a specific date to start. Plus, improving your life requires a day to day, moment to moment restart. Not something that only requires 1 starting point. (There are days where I have to restart 100 times a day. 🥴)

Improving your life doesn’t have to be done the way you’ve always believed you’ve had to. In fact, improving your life is much more effectively done when you go against the way you’ve always tried.

If it hasn’t worked yet, try something different. Don’t give up on improving your life.

Improve your life. I encourage you. It’s worth it. Improve your life by divesting from the societal lies you’ve been conditioned to believe. Improve your life by getting to know yourself on a deeper level and expanding your beliefs of who you think you are. Improve your life by building trust and capacity within yourself.

Improving your life is a powerful thing. I hope you choose it today, tomorrow and everyday after that. You get to choose what improving your life looks like. You get to choose what you do and how you do it.

* 4ish years ago I made the decision to improve my life by actively choosing NOT to fit exercise into my life. To NOT have a morning routine. To NOT have to do anything that required me to fit something extra into my life on a daily basis.

And my life has improved SO much! There is still a ton of room for improvement so I keep working on it. My way. The way that I choose to do it. I can no longer be made to feel like a failure because I no longer subscribe to the way I’m “supposed” to improve my life. And I encourage you to do it too. Your way.

Kim went through her own struggles when she was a mother with a toddler and new baby and realized she was sleep deprived, pressed for time, and at a breaking point. She turned to the self-help industry for guidance but what she found was pressure to create time she didn’t have and an overwhelming sense of being broken or not good enough.

You may not have access to the things you would like to do right now AND what is one small thing you can do right now despite having these barriers? ⁣

What is one small thing you can do that makes you feel like you have power? Like you have choice? Like you have control? Like you can have influence on your life?⁣

(Ps, in case there is confusion: I’m talking about 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘭 power, control, choice and influence, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝘦𝘹𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘭 power, control, choice or influence over someone or something else)⁣

This doesn’t have to be something you think you “should” do or have been told you “need” to do. ⁣

It’s something you feel deep inside of you, possibly even something that feels scary to do. Maybe it’s something that you’ve felt unable to do anything about before. Take baby steps towards being able to do something about that.⁣

By doing that you will be able to cultivate more power and more understanding about yourself. Those barriers will begin to seem less like barriers and more like a challenge you know you can handle.⁣

It may be slow, it may be hard but it will be worth it in the end. ⁣

The “just do it” message is missing so much.⁣

Sure, we definitely hold ourselves back from doing something that could really help us and the “just do it” message may feel like the motivating jump start we need….but rarely does it continue to hold steam if that’s the extent of the advice. ⁣

Advice like this usually results in you taking a big step, being bold, putting yourself out there, just DOING THE THING….and then it all begins to fizzle out. ⁣

Things don’t go the way you envisioned, complications arise, “self sabotage” patterns come into play, life stuff happens and then they typical negative/self depreciating stories come up. “I can’t do anything. It’s my fault. What’s wrong with me?!”⁣

Turns out there isn’t anything wrong with you, you are just trying to follow a strategy that doesn’t work. ⁣

It’s not you that’s wrong. ⁣
It’s the strategy that’s wrong. ⁣

You need to work with your biology. You need to work with your nervous system. You need to work with where you are right now and with what is available to you. You need to work with all the ways you’ve been conditioned to be and feel. ⁣

That stuff isn’t by-passable. ⁣

And the more you understand these things, the more likely you are able to trust yourself. The more likely you are able to make decisions for yourself and do the things that are actually right for you, that actually help you, instead of following the advice that sets you up to fail. ⁣

Tell me if this sounds familiar:⁣

𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐟 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩: “You need to do x, y and z (all of which take up extra time to do) in order to improve your life and feel better”⁣
𝐘𝐨𝐮: “I’m trying to do those but I just can’t find the time”⁣
𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐟 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩: “Not having time is just an excuse. You clearly just don’t want it bad enough.”⁣
𝐘𝐨𝐮: “Omg they must be right. I need to try harder.” ⁣

And then all that ends up happening is you continue to spiral, stay stuck, think poorly about yourself and always gaslight yourself into believing it’s your fault.⁣

When I finally acknowledged that my lack of time was actually real and legitimate and that it wasn’t “just an excuse”, I freed myself from the toxic systems of self help.

I also freed myself from this belief that I needed extra time in order to feel better and improve my life. That without extra time in my life I was powerless to do anything to feel better. ⁣

It was then that I began to cultivate a sense of self within me. When I began to believe in myself more than I believed in what others told me I had to do. That was when my life finally began to move in the direction I wanted to go. ⁣

A lack of time in peoples life is real and legitimate and is a huge issue. Yes, people need more time. We are all overworked and over stressed. ⁣

AND I want to be grounded in reality. ⁣

We can’t wait for things to magically change around us before we start believing in our ability to feel better and improve our lives. ⁣

There are things you can do to improve your life and feel better that don’t take up extra time. And, turns out when you actually divest from the industries of self, help you end up having more free time…(huh, isn’t that ironic 🥴)⁣

Are you feeling overwhelmed, stressed, anxious and overall just stuck in life? Do you feel like you are at max capacity and have no time to add anything extra into your life, no matter how “good” or “healthy” it is? Do you feel like you are just surviving, reading self help book after self help book, trying to improve your life and feel better to no avail? ⁣

If you don’t already know this about me, I have a very different take on spirituality, self help and the wellness industry as a whole. I believe these industries keep people stuck and rarely actually help them create deep, meaningful and sustainable change within their lives. ⁣

Turns out it isn’t a personal failing on your part that you feel this way. It also isn’t a personal failing that everything you’ve tried so far hasn’t worked. ⁣

There are very real reasons why you feel this way that are through no fault of your own, AND there are things you can do to help yourself that don’t include the typical things you think you “should” do.⁣

If you blame others and think “well if they would just change…” or “if they just wouldn’t do that…” ⁣

Then there is a high chance you are allowing their behaviour to control you. ⁣

This is not to say that someone else’s behaviour won’t affect you, of course it will affect you. And you are in control of how you let it affect you and how you respond to its affect.⁣

Be curious and learn to cultivate the space between you and other people.⁣

I wonder why there are so many people who get caught up in feeling like they aren’t enough or doing enough….⁣

…actually no, that’s a lie. ⁣

I know why people feel that way. Our society/culture/systems are designed to make us feel that way. (Not to mention the family you were raised in could also have had a huge impact on this.)⁣

I guess what I really wonder about is why do we continue to allow these standards and old beliefs to dictate how we feel? Why do we allow them to control our lives? Is it because we think we have no choice? That we have no power or ability to go against our conditioning or standards set that intend to make us feel this way?⁣

Do you believe it’s even a possibility to divest from this way of thinking and feeling? That you can get away from this cycle of feeling like you’re not enough and then having to tell yourself you are enough? ⁣

Do you think it’s possible to get to a place where you don’t question whether or not you are enough so that it doesn’t affect you anymore? That you can just move through life knowing you are enough…even when the arbitrary set standards never change?⁣

Obviously it will take time to get there but it is possible. ⁣

The lie of the self help, personal development, health and wellness and spirituality industries. ⁣

Are they really there to help you? Or are they there to keep you stuck, keep you feeling like a failure and to keep you feeling powerless and distracted?⁣

The issue isn’t you. The issue is with them.⁣

Don’t believe the lies. ⁣

You are powerful. You can create change within your life without having to follow all those arbitrary rules. ⁣

You are powerful. You have the ability to create change in your life. But you are stuck in an abusive relationship with ...

You are powerful.

You have the ability to create change in your life.

But you are stuck in an abusive relationship with the systems around you that are trying to convince you otherwise.

Trying to improve your life in the ways these systems tell you to improve your life does nothing but keep you feeling stuck, powerless and under their control.

You’ve been conditioned to feel this way. You’ve been conditioned to believe that there is no other way to feel better and improve your life but to listen to them.
