This Sunday, January 4th , we recognize Ribbon Skirt Day.
Ribbon Skirt Day began after Isabella Kulak, a 10-year-old Indigenous girl from Saskatchewan, was shamed for wearing her ribbon skirt to school on a formal wear day. What started as a painful moment became a powerful movement celebrating Indigenous identity, resilience, and pride.
Ribbon skirts are beautiful cultural garments made by Indigenous women and hold deep meaning connected to culture, tradition, and community. This day is an opportunity to honour those traditions, show support, and learn more.
Functional Therapy Inc. shares this to uplift Indigenous voices and encourage learning, respect, and celebration of Indigenous cultures and histories.
