We are excited to announce our endorsement of Sister Dawn Bellerosefor the position of Secretary Treasurer on the CUPE Ontario Executive Board.
It is the belief of our local that it is absolutely necessary to have someone in the position who holds the experience to balance the books of CUPE Ontario, we believe that Dawn is that person.
Not only has Dawn held the position of Secretary Treasurer in her own local for 16 years but she is a CUPE Member Facilitator, proving that she has the drive to better all members of CUPE. In our own experience with Dawn we have seen her go above and beyond by assisting us when our own Secretary Treasurer was new and learning about the position. Dawn truly cares about all members of CUPE.
As she has been a member of the CUPE Ontario Executive Board since 2016, and just recently became General Vice President on the CUPE National Executive Board, this demonstrates that she has the skills that are necessary in leading our union. She is trustworthy, thoughtful and transparent.
We feel it is also important to highlight that as a member of the Thessalon First Nation, and in keeping with CUPE Ontario’s Anti Racism Organizational Action Plan (AROAP), should Dawn be elected as Secretary Treasurer she will be the very first Indigenous woman to hold this position – this would be groundbreaking for our union!
CUPE Local 2977 will be very proud to vote for Dawn at the upcoming CUPE Ontario Convention in May.
In Solidarity,
Heather Dempster, President
Chantel Klunder, Vice President
Dani Brien, Secretary Treasurer
Brittany Guest, Recording Secretary
Christina Cramp, Lead Steward
