With over 25 years of experience using an evidence-based therapy practice (Music Therapy) in addition to having been trained in Neurologic Music Therapy (research-based system of 20 techniques), I've observed children progress and I've listened to parent's testimonials relating their child's improvements with their communication, social, psychological, emotional, cognitive and physical skills at a faster and more pleasurable rate through music therapy than other therapies referred to by their psychologist or physician because of their child's inner motivators towards making music (actively or passively) using their interests and abilities! Music has the ability to connect with and engage any living being. Here are some of the children with and without diagnosis at the time of starting music therapy or adapted music lessons with whom I've created musical moments that offered them an outlet of self expression, pleasure, and acceptance: Angelman's Syndrome, Anxiety Disorder, Autism, Asperger's, Brain Injuries, Cerebral Palsy, Chromosomal Disorders, Cognitively Delayed, Coping Loss, Communicative Disorders, Down Syndrome, Epilepsy, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, Hearing/Visual Impairments, Learning Challenges (ADHD, Dyslexia, Grapho-Motor issues), Sensory Processing Issues (auditory, visual, tactile seeking or avoidances), Stroke victims, Tourette's & Wiliam's Syndrome...to name a few. Music activates the whole brain simultaneously using all senses. Research reveals that through music therapy a child's responses were found to be more effective within a shorter period of time, the child had more success-oriented, regulating and pleasurable experiences, and in turn children became more empowered and emotionally stable, working towards/through their developmental process. Having worked in various multidisciplinary clinics, collaborating or running joint sessions with Parents, SLp's, OT's, PT's, BT's, Psychologist's and/or Educators has provided increased benefits for the child! I believe (and have witnessed) that when a team is working together, collaborating regularly, and is on the same page while communicating with parents, the child is better able to progress, generalize, and reinforce their learning of necessary skills with greater support and overall benefit. I strongly believe that every child deserves to be loved, respected and nurtured! Your questions, concerns and comments are welcome! Contact me today and let's connect your child to music in a way that will guide and support them today and throughout their well-being and life!

Many of the people we support express themselves through gestures, body language, and unique sounds. Music therapy offers a space where music becomes a shared language, allowing clients and therapists to communicate without words 🎶

Children’s anxiety is real. It is not “just a phase” and it is not something they can simply switch off. When a child gets stuck in worry, their brain is trying to keep them safe - but it can become overwhelming very quickly. The same “what if” thoughts repeat, the body reacts, and everything starts to feel more and more real.

What we often see on the outside - constant questions, avoidance, meltdowns, needing reassurance - is a child doing their best to cope with something that feels scary and out of control.

The difficult part is this. When anxiety takes over, our natural instinct as adults is to reassure, fix or remove the fear. Sometimes that helps in the moment, but it does not always help the child feel stronger long term. Real support is about helping children feel safe while also learning they can handle worry, face uncertainty and build confidence over time.

This is not about ignoring anxiety. It is about understanding it, responding with care, and giving children the tools they need so it does not control their lives.

Kids with slow processing speed are often considered lazy…

However, these kids are often very intelligent, they just process information slower than their peers.

Kids who experience processing speed tend to get distracted easily when asked to complete tasks or directions. But, there are a few modifications or adjustments that can be made in class to support their needs.

If you suspect your child or students have a slow processing issue, you may notice the following:

😶‍🌫️Unorganized and often forgets to turn in homework
😶‍🌫️Rarely completes tests on time and leaves multiple questions blank during timed tests
😶‍🌫️Struggles with math, sequencing and calculations
😶‍🌫️Is distracted frequently by background noise and finds it difficult to concentrate

To find out all the modifications or adjustments that can be made in the classroom to help kids with slow processing speed, leave a comment here 👇and we’ll send you the link to download the information. (Classroom tricks are one of the most important)

MIT researchers found that teaching music strengthens memory, attention, problem-solving, and language skills by activating both sides of the brain. Unlike coding, which builds logic but uses fewer brain regions, music engages creativity, emotions, and teamwork, leading to sharper intelligence and stronger academic performance. Experts say music first can even make coding easier later.
