Family Mental Health Support Network of Niagara

Family Mental Health Support Network of Niagara Since 1996, the FSN has provided mental health education, self care and advocacy support to the fami Three basic themes run strong throughout our workshops.

1.

The Family Mental Health Support Network of Niagara (FSN) supports both the family and the individual with serious mental illnesses and concurrent disorders (substance abuse). We offer 4 session and 12 session workshops in 5 cities throughout Niagara. There is no charge to attend our groups but we do accept donations through our website. understanding the illnesses

2. learning the available resources in the community that can help the caregiver and ill person

3. self-care skills for the caregiver. The groups are free. Our 4 facilitators are both family members and mental health professionals. We began offering groups in 1996 to assist families to better understand the illnesses, learn the available resources in the community that can help their relative and coach the family how and why it is vital to put self-care at the top of their priority list. We believe that an uneducated family does more harm than good. We also offer individual and family counselling in the privacy of the family home or our office. This is a fee for service and is sometimes reimbursable through insurance. We have a sliding scale and encourage people to just tell us if the cost is prohibitive so we can adjust the rate down. We also offer the following seminars.

1. Living Works safeTALK is a 3 hour seminar to learn the signs of su***de and how to connect the person to a professional helper.

2. Mental Health First Aid Canada is a 12 hour seminar over 2 days to learn to identify symptoms of mental illness and encourage the person to get treatment.

3. Family to Family Mental Health Education 8 and 24 hour seminars spread over 4 or 12 nights.

4. Mentorship and Leadership Training for Business.

5. Self-care seminars for front line workers.

🍁 Experience Forest Therapy This Fall 🌿

As the leaves begin to change, it’s the perfect time to slow down and notice the beauty of the season. Autumn reminds us that letting go can be healthy, natural, and even beautiful. Just as the trees release their leaves, Forest Therapy gives us space to release stress, clear our minds, and reconnect with ourselves.

Forest Therapy is a gentle practice of walking slowly, noticing with our senses, and resting in the present moment. Research shows that time in nature can reduce stress, lift mood, and support mental health. This fall, give yourself the gift of calm and renewal—join us for a walk among the colours of the season.

✨ New this year: Registration is now available through Eventbrite, making it easy to reserve your spot. Register here:

🌿 Curious About Forest Therapy? Here’s Why You Should Try It

In Niagara, we are surrounded by some of the most beautiful natural spaces in Ontario. From forest trails and wetlands to riverbanks and escarpment views, the region offers endless opportunities to connect with nature. But how often do we truly slow down and take it all in?

Forest Therapy is a guided, sensory-based experience that helps you reconnect with the natural world and with yourself. It’s not about hiking or exercise. It’s about being present. With the help of a trained guide, you’ll receive gentle prompts that encourage you to move slowly, notice your surroundings, and awaken your senses.

In a world that moves fast, Forest Therapy helps you move with intention. Research shows that spending time in nature can reduce stress, improve sleep, boost your immune system, and lift your mood.

This summer, we’re offering a variety of Forest Therapy walks throughout Niagara. New evening sessions have also been added to help you unwind midweek.
