Fun fact: π
In Ontario, dental offices are required to have E-size portable cylinder oxygen tanks available as part of their emergency medical equipment.
These tanks should be stored properly (on a stand or chained against a wall), stored away from heat & open flames.
Inspections and calibrations should take place annually to ensure safety and proper functioning.
In BLS training, we cover the basics of the oxygen tank while practicing our BVM skills. These oxygen tanks should be equipped with regulators and a flowmeter. Connectors, tubing, and the reservoir bags connect to the cylinder to a full face mask for resuscitation. π·
While teaching courses in dental offices, I try to cover all possible emergencies that could arise in the office. We have the option of practicing CPR in the dental chairs as well as discussing all emergency drugs required by the College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario. π¦·
