Are you asking the right questions?

So much of my day is validation. Yes, I believe you. You are not crazy. This is happening to you, even if we don’t have all the evidence - yet.

We haven’t really been taught how to become our own problem solvers. The challenge - curiosity over anxiety.

I trust that when my brain is nattering at me that I’m missing something, that I am in fact, missing something. I just keep waiting for more information. Have you ever noticed that? Try observing and waiting but not rushing. Trust the nag, the tap, the ick…whatever it is. That’s the real you, nudging you in the right direction. Keep in mind - getting a no means adjustment, not failure.

I love helping people:
-figure out where to focus their energy and time on their total health
-having appreciation for a body that’s carrying the load
-reestablish their own authority in chaos

It’s okay to not know. Don’t give up on yourself getting answers, and building a team of people who at least care that we don’t know immediately but that we’re willing to be curious with you! 🥰💕

For one of my younger patients today who followed me on IG - I promised I would post, so some health tips for you in the heat! 💕🚴‍♀️

1. Keep hydrating! For younger people, we can do pedialyte popsicles alternated with water and regular popsicles to replace all of those salts if we’re really sweating (my son insists they’re gross but they’re a nice option! 😝)

2. For my middle age patients, don’t forget that you can burn out the tension of your day with your physical activity. Swear out loud! Shout! Make faces! I always love a good bike ride myself 🥰 and you’re building muscle too 💕

3. And Ontarians, we know we’ll miss this in the winter 🥶

Perimenopause and Menopause💕

There’s been a surge of talking about perimenopause and menopause in the last 5-10 years as women are going through the change and realizing - it’s not all it was promised to be. We
don’t stop menstruating and just go into bliss; hot flashes, low s*x drive and vaginal dryness or bladder leakage - they’re real. Not to mention the mood changes and sleep concerns!

We’re not betraying the matriarchal lineage that came before us by not fully expressing those fears and discomfort in this time of change, and we have more resources and research than the ladies that came before us. This is also a season of grief with change - which is okay, and normal.

Here are some things to expect. If you want to read the expanded version with some extra support ideas, check out the .dhw blog!

➔ Your period ending is not the end, it is the beginning of a new phase of your hormonal life. The timeline isn’t important - making yourself feel comfortable is. Period.
➔ Estrogen loss creates a lot of symptoms many years before it’s evident in
blood tests, which include vaginal dryness, bone density, immune changes, changes in cholesterol and glucose, and sleep disturbances
➔ Estrogen loss isn’t the only hormone that affects you in menopause - progesterone, testosterone, cortisol, DHEA all change. These affect your energy, sleep, s*x drive, mental clarity, hair and skin.
➔ Hot flashes don’t have to be full of sweat to be real and worth supporting
➔ Hormone replacement isn’t the terrifying thing that it was originally positioned
to be. You might need it. There are people who want to help! Hint - estrogen and progesterone need to be given together to support you.
➔ If you can’t take hormones, there are herbs that mimic estrogen, progesterone, testosterone and DHEA if you can’t do hormones for genetic or health risks
➔ You might gain weight. I know.
➔ You will change in personality a little, and your needs will shift. This is healthy and normal.

Just because you don’t know or remember your family getting help for their mental/physical/emotional health doesn’t mean that they didn’t need to get help.

If you don’t know your history, or you think your ancestors would have liked the wisdom you now have, act on them for you! Your most healed and loving ancestors would want that for you. Give forward and take care of yourself.
It doesn’t matter if you’re first - you can do it for them too 💕
