Hotel Dieu Shaver Foundation was proud to welcome Bryan Rose, Executive Director of the Niagara Community Foundation, for a special cheque presentation celebrating a $44,000 grant from the David S. Howes Fund at Niagara Community Foundation.
Thanks to this generous support, HDS is now home to a state-of-the-art Bioness L300 - the first of its kind in Niagara! This advanced rehabilitation technology supports patients recovering from stroke, MS, cerebral palsy, brain injuries, and incomplete spinal cord injuries, helping improve walking ability, mobility, independence, and quality of life.
The highlight of the visit was seeing the equipment in action! During a live demonstration with the support of two of our incredible team members, Julie (Physiotherapist) and Sandra (Rehab Assistant), Chuck - on just his third session using the Bioness L300 - shared how the device has already helped restore movement and strength to his right leg following a stroke. His progress in such a short time was remarkable - and even more powerful was the confidence he has regained and the determination he has to keep improving.
Being able to show this technology at work, and the real impact it’s having on patients, made the visit especially meaningful. We are incredibly fortunate to offer this vital rehabilitation tool right here in Niagara — reinforcing Hotel Dieu Shaver’s role as a leader in rehabilitation and innovation.
