Hello Everyone,
It feels like an eternity since I last saw you, and I genuinely miss every-body. Regular updates have been scarce simply because there hasn’t been much to report.
At the onset, when I first described feeling completely devastated and heartbroken, those words still capture the truth perfectly. The phases of demolition, remediation, restoration, and rebuilding remain essential steps toward standing tall.
Each stage brings about new challenges—roadblocks, hard truths, and unexpected delays. Even simple tasks, like getting utilities connected at the temporary warehouse office (still not fully accomplished), have turned into major hurdles. Illnesses, snowstorms, delays, and holidays continue to slow progress in one way or another.
A practice built over 26 years cannot be rebuilt overnight, even just trying to capture the essentials is proving more complex than ever imagined. The ongoing process of setting up, cleaning out, sorting through, seeking practice advisements, and making decisions at every turn has been overwhelming, time-consuming, and, quite frankly, I’m doing the very best possible. Yet, moving forward remains the only direction.
The loss of something so meaningful has created a void deeper than any I’ve faced before—and there have been some very difficult ones, to say the least.
Yesterday brought a small sign of hope: a bid was finally awarded for the demolition work to begin. That step marks tangible progress.
I’ll continue sharing updates as things move forward, super appreciate every check‑in and kind offers of support. Doing my best, personally to get back to each and everyone of you. Even when things appear quiet on the surface, much activity continues behind the scenes, with no rest for the wicked!
Gratitude runs deep for the kindness and understanding extended while I manage limited bandwidth.

Sadly and frankly, the ongoing state of healthcare in Ontario and across Canada — particularly in neuromusculoskeletal (NMSK) care — remains deeply disappointing. Ontario continues to fail its back pain patients, leaving too many without timely access to evidence‑based, best‑practice care.
Access to the most effective, evidence‑based (EVB) spine care remains restricted, often requiring referral into specialized hospital‑affiliated spine programs. Wait times and system barriers are unacceptably long, even for patients who have already exhausted every conservative option.
Publicly funded lumbar disc replacement — a motion‑preserving alternative to spinal fusion — is typically performed only in select tertiary centres, mainly large academic hospitals. Even within these programs, many spine surgeons restrict artificial disc replacement to the cervical (neck) region, continuing to use fusion procedures for the lumbar spine.In Ontario, complex spine surgery is largely available through university‑affiliated programs such as the University of Toronto Spine Program (St. Michael’s, Sunnybrook, and Toronto Western/UHN) and the Krembil Neuroscience Centre. Access is dependent on a referral from a family physician (not a walk‑in doctor) to a Rapid Access Clinic (RAC) or central spine intake program. There, an advanced practice provider conducts the initial assessment and triages appropriate candidates to tertiary‑level spine surgeons.
When speaking with RAC clinicians or spine clinics, patients should explicitly ask whether lumbar artificial disc replacement — not fusion — is offered at that specific centre, and whether any surgeons perform it regularly. Availability continues to vary by hospital and practitioner.
For Niagara residents, RAC services are available at Port Health Clinic (1–2 days weekly with Dr. M. Riva) and in Vineland with Dr. Jenna McFarlane; both are chiropractors operating within government‑funded programs.
