Last week, SPMA Council took advantage of the quiet campus to invite more than 70 SHSM students from three local high schools to take part in SPMA Game Plan, a day that involved interaction with students and professors, discussion, and some fun. “The goal of Game Plan is to give SHSM students a hands-on look at the sport industry and help them see what studying sport management at Brock could look like,” explained Mia Mastroianni, Game Plan Event Coordinator. “As a former SHSM sport student myself, it’s exciting to welcome these students to campus and hopefully inspire them to explore the many opportunities that exist within the sport industry.” Thank you SPMA Council! Your leadership is impressive and appreciated!

The Brock Functional Inclusive Training Centre is pleased to invite you to an in-person community talk: Aging Well, Living Fully: Biomechanics and Ergonomics for Sexual Well-Being
Date and time: Wednesday, April 9 - 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Location: Canada Games Park, Brock University
Join us for a free thoughtful, practical session on sexual well-being as we age - an important (and often overlooked) part of overall health and quality of life. This session is designed for community members, practitioners, students, and researchers who want to better support healthy aging - whether in their own lives or in their work with older adults.

Presented by Dr. Richard Hughes, this talk uses a respectful, research-informed ergonomic approach to help match the physical demands of intimacy with the strength, flexibility, balance, and comfort of both partners. Dr. Hughes will introduce basic principles of biomechanics and apply them to real-life questions, including common age-related conditions such as arthritis, as well as hip precautions following total hip replacement (Learn more about Dr Hughes here). The session will include time for Q&A. Registration link in Bio!

This event is free and open to the public, but registration is required.

This interactive conversation invites students, trainees, and faculty to discuss building a sustainable and impactful career in STEM. Drawing on her experience leading both fundamental and applied research programs, as well as her national work advancing equity and mentorship through initiatives such as iSTAND, Dr. Jakobi will reflect on leadership, career decision making, and long term success in STEM. While the discussion centers women’s experiences in STEM, the event is open to all students and allies interested in fostering inclusive research environments and exploring academic career pathways.

When Joseph Dick (BSM ’21, MA ’24) first stepped on campus in 2017, it wasn’t the fresh start he imagined.

Fast forward to last week when he graduated with a Master of Arts in Applied Health Sciences. The milestone moment is a testament to his perseverance and a reflection of how his time at Brock transformed his life in more ways than one — from igniting a passion for research to rekindling his love of running.

When Joseph Dick (BSM ’21, MA ’24) first stepped on campus in 2017, it wasn’t the fresh start he imagined. While he enjoyed his studies, he struggled to find his feet socially. “That was a very dark year for me,” he said. “...

They each received the Governor General’s Silver Medal for achieving the highest academic standing of ’s 2024 graduating class.

For the first two years of her undergrad, Ilhaam Al-Harazi (BSc ’24) didn’t think she was smart. There were times when she questioned her ability to keep up in the competitive Medical Sciences program and eventually her negative self-talk began ...
