I am currently training to be a certified doula through Doula Canada. I am also a mother of four who is passionate about the birthing process. I have had four different birth experiences and from each one have learned three things;
1.) My body is amazing and like all other female bodies-it knows what to do regarding labour and birth, and I should trust it
2.) For the best possible outcome, we as mothers must be informed about the choices we make for ourselves and for our babies before we make them, and always stand up for our rights and beliefs
3.) Support is everything. From medical procedures to hand holding and everything in between; there is simply never too much support
As a doula I am here to be sure that the support needs of the mother are being met. This is done complimentary and with respect to the support of the medical staff and family, and always within my scope of practice. A doula has done her job when the mother walks away from her birthing experience feeling satisfied knowing that she has done the best that she possibly could for herself and her baby in the process. And, with the loving care and guidance I offer as doula, she can do that.
