✨ How Anxiety Can Present Itself In Children ✨

Back to school jitters? It could be anxiety.
Watch for signs- their body is telling the story 💛

As the school year begins, it’s normal for kids to feel a little nervous, but sometimes, it’s more than first day jitters.

Back to school anxiety in children often shows up physically- even when they can’t explain what’s wrong.
Some signs to look out for:
😣 Frequent stomachaches or headaches
😴 Trouble sleeping or nightmares
🫸 Refusing to go to school
🌀 Clinginess, irritability, or sudden meltdowns

These symptoms can be confusing- especially if there’s ‘nothing wrong’ on the surface.
But… your child’s body might be expressing anxiety they don’t have words for(yet).

Heading back to school or going for the first time is a BIG deal, and can stir up big feelings- for kids and parents. 💭✏️

Whether it’s fear of the unknown or separation anxiety, it’s normal to feel overwhelmed.

Here’s a few tips to help with the transition:
🍎 start implementing routine early (don’t wait until the night before school to try an earlier bedtime 😉)
🍎 validate emotions - let your child know that it’s okay to feel nervous
🍎 model behaviours you want to see more of - show them how to calm themselves. (Your calm helps them feel safe)
