What are Autoinflammatory diseases? These can also be known as periodic fever syndromes or disorders of immune dysregluation. These are often reflected by systemic inflammation, including fevers, rashes, pain, and organ involvement from head to toe with recurring, or chronic symptoms. Earlier diagnosis and proper treatment can have improved quality of life and lessen complications/damage.

Let's help “Shine a Light on Autoinflammatory Diseases” this year!

August 1 to 7th is National Breastfeeding Week!

Benefits? Concerns? Struggles? Questions? New moms and dads have lots of these, particularly when it comes to the health and well being of their child and wanting to do what is best for them but not 100% sure what that is. Many have, and offer, their opinions but each individual must make their own decision based on their circumstance and what will feasibly work for them.

Thankfully Canada has a ton of resources for new moms and dads that can answer those questions and help them make the best choices. Check out https://www.who.int/campaigns/world-breastfeeding-week for information and resources

World Breastfeeding Week is held in the first week of August every year, supported by WHO, UNICEF and many Ministries of Health and civil society partners.

It's surprising how many today think Hepatitis is a 3rd world problem when, in fact, according to Canada.ca "In 2021, Canada had an estimated 214,000 people living with chronic hepatitis C and 262,000 living with chronic hepatitis B, with 59% and 58% respectively being aware of their infection."

That is why this July 28th on World Hepatitis Day it is important for us to understand the various types of hepatitis, their effects and treatments, along with the signs and symptoms and preventative measures we can take.

Talk to your Dr if you are concerned about hepatitis and check out https://www.worldhepatitisday.org for more information and resources.

July is Uterine Fibroid Awareness month in Canada with July 21st recognized as Uterine Fibroid Awareness Day.

Uterine fibroids (leiomyomas) are non-malignant growths of the uterus and one of the most common gynecological conditions worldwide. The purpose of this awareness campaign is to bring attention to this health condition which women often ignore or just "live with."

The US based organization, Society for Women's Research, has made and excellent toolkit available, free of charge, if needed. It can be found at https://swhr.org/resources/uterine-fibroids-toolkit-a-patient-empowerment-guide/

If you are concerned about fibroids, speak to your Dr to find out what resources are available in our area!

No one likes to talk about brain tumours but the truth of the matter is that this is a real concern for Canadians. This is why July 16th is Glioblastoma Awareness Day. Why?

Glioblastoma is the most common and aggressive malignant primary brain tumour in Canada. Join Us On July 16, 2025, come together for the seventh annual Glioblastoma Awareness Day. Together, we will raise nationwide awareness about glioblastoma (GBM), the most common, complex, treatment-resistant, and deadliest type of brain cancer. In the weeks leading up to GBM Day, NBTS is sharing sto...
