Proud that one of our team members was a part of this initiative. Way to go, Dana!
The Canada East Spine Centre has always strived to be part of the best standards.

On Wednesday we had the privilege of welcoming Bill Barrable, CEO of the Praxis Spinal Cord Institute, to the Saint John Regional Hospital. He presented the team with the Accreditation Canada certificate for our commitment to high-quality, patient-centered care in alignment with the Spinal Cord Injury Standards of Excellence, accredited by the Health Standards Organization (HSO). Our staff members Eden Richardson- Database Manager and Dresden Forshner- Clinical Trials Associate attended along with the neurosurgeons of SJRH and their amazing team of nurses, social workers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and other health care leaders. Without their hard work none on this would be possible. Congratulations!

👋Meet Dr. Adesanya Tolu Alugo, an interventional pain specialist at Horizon’s Saint John Regional Hospital (SJRH), who is devoted to increasing awareness during National Migraine and Headache Awareness Month this June. 🧠đŸ©ș

Migraines are complex neurological conditions with significant impacts on daily life and are often misunderstood as mere headaches. Dr. Alugo emphasizes the importance of educational campaigns to dispel misconceptions and reduce stigma. He advocates for a holistic approach to migraine management, including lifestyle modifications, identifying triggers, and understanding lesser-known migraine triggers such as weather changes and hormonal fluctuations.

Recent advancements in migraine treatment, supported by initiatives like those at SJRH, include innovative therapies like gepants, ditans, and monoclonal antibodies targeting CGRP receptors. đŸ„ŒđŸ”Ź

Join Dr. Alugo this month to learn more about the latest in migraine research and treatment options.

Let's work together to raise awareness for those affected by migraines. đŸ€—
----------------------------------------------------

Today is International Clinical Trials Day which recognizes the power of research in advancing care and changing lives. The New Brunswick Heart Centre is proud to contribute through the LeAAPS Clinical Trial, a global study aiming to reduce stroke risk during heart surgery.

LeAAPS (Left Atrial Appendage Exclusion for Prophylactic Stroke Reduction) explores whether 'clipping' the heart’s left atrial appendage (LAA) during surgery can prevent strokes, especially in patients who may later develop irregular heart rhythms like atrial fibrillation.

Horizon’s Saint John Regional Hospital was the second site in Canada to join this important research!

Here’s what one participant had to say:

“Staff helped me understand how participating could help not only me, but others in the future. Everything was explained clearly—even comparing the heart clip to a bobby pin—which really helped ease my mind. Throughout the trial, I felt cared for, informed, and supported. I truly felt like a partner in my care—not just a patient.”

Clinical research isn’t just about medicine—it’s about people. Thank you to all LeAAPS participants for helping shape the future of heart care.
