What a year 2022 has been...in January we launched CommuniKate Speech Language Pathology with a hope and a dream. We have been so fortunate to be virtually welcomed in the homes of so many families in New Brunswick, achieving communication goals, watching growth and having many laughs along the way. Did you know... there is a pattern that most children follow when developing the ability to produce sounds.
By age 4, on average, children are using p, b, t, d, k, g, m, n, f, h, y, w, v, s, z, sh, ch, j & l. We are expecting children to be understood most of the time by familiar and unfamiliar adults.
In earlier years, we often hear children produce words like "snake" as "nake" or "swing" as "wing". This pattern is called cluster reduction.
By age 4, we would be expecting children to be producing these cluster reduction errors less frequently.
