πŸ’œπŸŒˆ DISABILITY AWARENESS WEEK - RUBINSTEIN-TAYBI SYNDROME πŸŒˆπŸ’œ

As part of Disability Awareness Week, we are continuing to spotlight different disabilities and rare conditions to help spread awareness, understanding, acceptance and inclusion throughout our community. ✨

Today, we are highlighting Rubinstein-Taybi Syndrome (RTS).

RTS is a rare genetic condition that can affect growth, development, learning and communication. Every individual with RTS is unique and may experience different strengths, challenges and abilities. πŸ’œ

While RTS is considered rare, awareness and understanding can make a meaningful difference for individuals and families living with the condition. With support, inclusion, therapies and encouragement, people with RTS can thrive and reach their full potential.

This week reminds us that every person deserves to feel accepted, respected and included in our schools, workplaces and communities. πŸ’«

Different, not less. Inclusion, not exclusion. πŸ’œ

πŸ’šπŸŒˆ DISABILITY AWARENESS WEEK - CEREBRAL PALSYπŸŒˆπŸ’š

As part of Disability Awareness Week, we are continuing to spotlight different disabilities to help spread awareness, understanding, acceptance and inclusion throughout our community. ✨

Today, we are highlighting Cerebral Palsy.

Cerebral Palsy is a physical disability that affects movement, muscle control, posture and coordination. Every person with Cerebral Palsy experiences it differently, and with the right support, individuals with CP can live full, active and meaningful lives. πŸ’šβ™Ώ

Disability does not define a person’s abilities, strengths or potential. By creating inclusive communities and showing kindness, patience and support, we help ensure everyone feels valued and included.

Together, we can build a stronger and more inclusive community for all. πŸ’«

πŸ’™πŸŒˆ DISABILITY AWARENESS WEEK πŸŒˆπŸ’™

Throughout this week, we will be spotlighting a number of different disabilities to help spread awareness, understanding, acceptance and inclusion within our community. Every individual is unique, and every person deserves to feel valued, respected and included. ✨

Today, we are highlighting Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Autism is a spectrum, meaning every person with autism experiences the world differently. Autism can affect communication, social interaction, learning and behaviour, but it also comes with many unique strengths, talents and perspectives. πŸ’™πŸ§©

One of the most important things we can do as a community is lead with kindness, patience, understanding and acceptance. Inclusion matters, and small acts of support can make a big difference in someone’s life.

Different, not less. πŸ’™

Neighbourhood Works has employed our participants for years, is always the first to support all of our fundraisers, and contributes to all of our events! We can certainly testify to how much they support local & just how much they truly care about our community and everyone in it! πŸ‘πŸΌ β™₯️

Last year alone, NWI contributed approximately 2.5 million dollars into the local economy through salaries, local purchasing, and contractor services.
This does not include long-term economic benefit of helping individuals become independent and employed. The true impact is even greater.

We buy local:
β€’ $200,000+ at Kent
β€’ $100,000-$120,000 in local food purchases
β€’ Furniture and electronics locally
β€’ Appliances and building supplies locally
β€’ Office supplies locally
