💙 Alzheimer’s Awareness Month – Supporting Dementia-Friendly Communities 💙

This month, Royal Oak Senior Living proudly recognizes Alzheimer’s Awareness Month and shines a light on the importance of building dementia-friendly communities.

We are honored to partner with Alzheimer Society Southwest Partners as we work together to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and support individuals and families living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. By learning more, showing compassion, and supporting one another, we can create communities where everyone feels understood, respected, and included.

Throughout the month, we encourage conversations, education, and simple acts of kindness, because awareness today helps create a more supportive tomorrow. 💙

Together, we wear blue in support, stand with families, and continue our commitment to compassionate, person-centred care.

We were truly honored to support our community by serving a hot, hearty brunch to the incredible youth at Ignite Youth Centre 💛

Sharing a meal is about more than food, it’s about connection, care, and showing up for one another. Our residents had a wonderful time getting creative with flower arranging at Royal Oak Senior Living. From choosing the perfect blooms to designing beautiful arrangements, it was an afternoon filled with laughter, colour, and a whole lot of joy.

🦌 A Wild Day at Royal Oak Senior Living! 🎄✨
Today’s “Deer Hunting” games and surprise Reindeer Visits had the whole community laughing from start to finish!

Our team kicked off the morning dressed in their festive antlers, but the real star of the day was our very own friendly reindeer who spent time visiting residents, sharing hugs, posing for photos, and spreading pure holiday joy. ❤️

From giggles in the hallways to a few competitive “hunters” aiming for our mischievous reindeer during the games, the smiles were nonstop. These moments remind us of the magic that happens when fun, friendship, and a little holiday silliness come together.

🌟 Community Kindness at Royal Oak Senior Living 🌟

We’re excited to share that this year we’re supporting Ignite Youth Centre in St. Thomas as our charity of choice. Ignite is a free, safe, and inclusive drop-in space for young people aged 12–19 (and some 10–11-year-old programs), offering everything from arts, recreation, games, cooking and life-skills programming to mental wellness support and homework help. 💛

As part of our efforts, we’re collecting toiletries and deodorants—simple essentials that can make a big difference for youth who rely on community support. We’ll continue collecting items through next week, with plans to drop everything off at the end of the week.

Plus: on Tuesday, December 30th, we’ll be cooking and serving a special brunch for the Ignite youth. It’s a wonderful opportunity to gather, connect, and contribute to a warm, welcoming community.

We’re excited for this partnership and look forward to working alongside Ignite on future projects throughout the new year. Thank you for helping us “spark change” together! 🔥💙

A big thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate the season with us... residents, families, friends, and guests. Your laughter, kindness, and festive spirit filled our home with joy from start to finish. ❤️

From delicious treats and cheerful conversations to the kids’ craft corner, hot chocolate bar, festive music on our baby grand piano, and our Holiday Village scavenger hunt, plus all the beautiful moments captured in these photos, it was truly a celebration to remember.
