Throwing medication away in your trash is not a good idea. Many animals - wild AND domestic - like to forage and eat things that they find in garbage and landfills.

Flushing your medication down the toilet is also not great as they contaminate our water supply because sewage treatment facilities aren't able to process the medication. In 2021, Canadian researchers found pharmaceuticals in water samples, and Health Canada reported increasing pharmaceutical contaminants in groundwater, drinking water, and food sources!

As part of the Ontario Medications Return Program, we will dispose of your medications in a safe, confidential, and free manner!

SUNSET PHARMACY OFFERS A FREE SHARPS DISPOSAL PROGRAM

If anyone in your household requires medical sharps due to their health condition, it is essential to dispose of them properly. Discarding them in the trash could result in needle stick injuries to household members, pets, housekeepers, janitors, and municipal workers. Improperly disposed of medical sharps may spread infections and cause soil contamination.

To avoid harm, use a medical sharps container with a biohazard symbol to store used medical sharps.

Medical sharps containers are available for FREE at Sunset Pharmacy.
Once the container is full, return it to back to us for safe disposal.

What belongs in a sharps container?
- Needles and syringes
- Infusion sets
- Lancets
- Pen tips
- Pre-filled syringes, cartridges
- Auto-injector
