Digital Health Week is a great reminder of how technology helps connect patient information, supports clinical communication, and improves care across hospitals and community partners. None of this happens on its own - it takes a skilled and dedicated Digital Health team, and we’re lucky to have one leading the way at STEGH.

Did you know?

It’s Antimicrobial Awareness Week! This week is a reminder that antibiotics are powerful medicines - and we all have a part to play in making sure they stay effective. When antibiotics are used too often or when they aren’t needed, bacteria can become resistant, making infections harder to treat.

You can help by taking antibiotics only when prescribed, using them exactly as directed, and never sharing leftover medication. These small steps protect your health and help keep antibiotics working for everyone.

Together, we can slow the spread of antimicrobial resistance and keep these life-saving drugs effective for years to come.

Today, we proudly recognize the incredible contributions of our Emergency Department Assistants (EDAs) - the unsung heroes who help keep our Emergency Department running smoothly every single day. EDAs play a vital role in patient care and departmental operations. From maintaining a clean and organized environment, restocking essential supplies, and supporting equipment maintenance, to safely transporting patients and specimens - they ensure everything flows seamlessly in our fast-paced ED setting. Their specialized training and dedication make a real difference, helping create a safe, responsive, and effective environment for both patients and staff. To our amazing EDAs - thank you for your hard work, compassion, and commitment. You are truly appreciated!

Today is World Kindness Day, and it’s a great chance to spread a little positivity in our community. Small gestures can make someone’s day - a friendly hello, a quick check-in, holding a door, or thanking someone who’s helped you.

If you’re looking for ideas or just want a little inspiration, the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation has plenty of stories and suggestions: https://www.randomactsofkindness.org

Let’s make kindness a daily habit, St. Thomas and Elgin County.

November is Fall Prevention Month. Did you know that falls are the most common reason for a hospital or emergency visit in Canada? The good news is that most falls can be prevented.
Simple steps like staying active, checking your vision, reviewing your medications, and keeping your home free of hazards can make a big difference.

This Remembrance Day, we take time to reflect on the courage and selflessness of those who have served - and continue to serve - in times of war, conflict, and peace. Their sacrifices have shaped our country and the freedoms we cherish today.

At St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital, we honour our veterans and their families with deep gratitude. Their strength, compassion, and commitment continue to inspire us in the work we do each day.

At 11:00 a.m., we will pause for two minutes of silence to remember, reflect, and give thanks. Lest we forget.
