THANK YOU to our dedicated volunteers. You make a HUGE difference in the lives of our patients and their families. We wrapped up Volunteer Week at STEGH by celebrating and recognizing our volunteers at an event yesterday. It was so much fun to see everyone playing trivia, winning prizes, and enjoying great food.

Special thanks to our local partners for their donations during Volunteer Week: COBS Bread, Real Canadian Superstore, M&M Food Market, Grandma's Oven Bakery & Cakes Inc., Canadale Nurseries, Tim Hortons

It was a sea of green today at STEGH as we recognized Be a Donor Month. We were proud to host our annual organ donation Lunch & Learn for staff and physicians across the hospital.

This year, we welcomed Kyle and his wife Becky, who shared Kyle’s journey as an organ recipient and the impact donation has had on their lives. It was a truly moving presentation.

A special thank you to the Rolph family for sharing your story with us and helping raise awareness about the life-saving power of organ donation.

If you’re not yet a registered organ donor, visit beadonor.ca and be sure to speak with your family about your decision to donate. Trillium Gift of Life Network

Our Emergency Department is currently experiencing longer wait times due to higher volumes of patients presenting for care. These challenges are expected to continue through the weekend.

If your condition is not an emergency, please consider alternate care options where appropriate: https://www.stegh.on.ca/hospital-services/emergency-department/alternate-options-for-care/

Thank you for your patience and understanding as our teams continue to care for those who need urgent medical attention.

As we wrap up Medical Laboratory Week, we want to take a moment to recognize and thank the Laboratory Services team at STEGH.

Behind every test result is a dedicated group of professionals working with skill, precision, and care to support patients, physicians, and our entire hospital team. Your work often happens behind the scenes, but the impact you make is seen every single day.

Thank you for your commitment to quality, teamwork, and excellence. We are proud to celebrate each of you this week and all year long.

to healthcare innovation in St. Thomas.

This photo from the Elgin County Archives, published in the St. Thomas Times-Journal on May 11, 1970, features nurses on the Cardiac Care Ward at what we now know as the ICU. Assistant Head Nurse Helen Small is shown demonstrating the monitoring system at the nurses’ station, designed so staff could keep a constant watch on patients through both direct sightlines and heartbeat monitors.

Even then, patient-centered care was front and centre. Each of the six rooms was decorated in pastel colours with pictures, thoughtfully designed to comfort and calm patients during recovery.

A great reminder that compassion and innovation have always gone hand in hand in healthcare.

We welcomed 69 babies in March, bringing us to 833 births this past year! That’s our highest number of births in over 13 years.

Every number represents a family, a story, and a very special moment. We’re proud to be part of these beginnings.
