Our Pharmacy team is one in a million - and this month, we are especially proud to celebrate them. Through every challenge our health care system has faced, our pharmacy team has been a steady, compassionate, and expert presence for both our patients and our community. From collaborating closely with other health disciplines to navigating ongoing drug shortages with skill and determination, they consistently rise to the occasion with professionalism and heart.

Behind the scenes and on the front lines, they make an extraordinary difference every single day. Whether they are carefully documenting home medications, compounding IV medications to support nursing teams, contributing as trusted members of interdisciplinary clinical teams, or ensuring patients leave the hospital with safe and seamless discharge plans - their impact is felt across every corner of our organization.

At a time when health care is under immense strain, our pharmacy team continues to show resilience and dedication. We are grateful for their expertise and compassion. Thank you to our Pharmacy team!

Every day, social workers help patients and families navigate complex systems with compassion and expertise, connecting them to the right services and supports to promote a safe return to the community. They are the quiet strength behind so many moments of hope. Their advocacy, empathy and problem solving make a profound difference in patient care outcomes.

During National Social Work Week, we proudly recognize and celebrate the invaluable contributions of our social workers at STEGH in supporting the health, mental health, and overall well-being of our patients and their families. Social work is essential - and we extend a heartfelt thank you to our incredible team.

Emergency Department Update - Friday, February 27 (10:20 a.m.)

Due to high patient volumes in our Emergency Department and increased ambulance arrivals, we are currently experiencing significant pressures related to inpatient capacity. This is resulting in longer-than-usual wait times for care in the ED.

These pressures are expected to continue through the weekend.

If your medical concern is not urgent, please consider accessing alternate care options where appropriate: https://www.stegh.on.ca/hospital-services/emergency-department/alternate-options-for-care/

We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as our teams continue to care for patients with the most urgent needs.

This morning, Patty, Bryan, and Floriana from our team had the opportunity to visit the Institute of Indigenous Learning at Fanshawe College, where they connected with students and took part in meaningful conversations about healthcare, career pathways, and community.

We’re grateful to the students and faculty who welcomed us into your space and shared your thoughts, questions, and perspectives. Opportunities like this are an important part of how we continue to listen, learn, and build strong relationships with the communities we serve.

Today, our STEGH team showed up in pink in support of anti-bullying.

is a reminder that kindness, respect, and inclusion matter, not just today but every day. By wearing pink, our staff are standing together against bullying and helping to create a safer, more supportive environment for our patients, families, colleagues, and community.

Thank you to everyone who took part.

Members of our team were honoured to attend yesterday’s flag raising at St. Thomas City Hall in recognition of Human Trafficking Awareness Day.

Human trafficking is one of the fastest growing crimes worldwide and continues to impact individuals and families in communities across Canada, including right here in Southwestern Ontario. As a healthcare organization, we have an important role to play in recognizing the signs, supporting those who may be at risk, and connecting patients with the care and resources they need in a safe and compassionate way.

Participating in events like this helps raise awareness, strengthen community partnerships, and reaffirm our commitment to protecting the health, safety, and dignity of every person we serve.

Friday, February 20 @ 10:15 a.m.: Our hospital continues to see consistently high patient volumes. This reflects a steady rise in overall demand rather than any one specific issue. At this time, a number of patients who need to be admitted are waiting in the Emergency Department for an inpatient bed, which reduces available space in the ED and will lead to longer wait times. We anticipate these capacity pressures will persist through the weekend.

If your concern is not urgent, please consider alternate care options where appropriate:

It’s Pancake Tuesday! Today’s feature in the Atrium Café included fluffy pancakes topped with mixed berry compote and whipped cream, served with bacon or turkey bacon.

A big thank you to our Food Services team for the creativity (and deliciousness) they bring to our café. Little touches like this go a long way in brightening a busy day.

Today is Random Acts of Kindness Day! Kindness matters, and it doesn’t have to be big to make a difference. Today, do one small act that could lift someone’s spirits - hold the door, send an uplifting message, let someone merge in traffic, pick up a bit of litter, compliment a co-worker, or smile at a stranger. Every little bit adds up and helps make our community kinder and more connected.

Share what you did today and tag a friend to keep the kindness going!
