COURAGE UNDER FIRE 🇨🇦
Master Corporal Frigon. Afghanistan, May 2009.
Imagine: You’re 23. Nine soldiers are looking at you. Bullets everywhere. You’re cut off. Surrounded. Every decision you make in the next 60 seconds determines who goes home.
Now imagine doing it twice in two weeks.
May 7th - ambushed. May 20th - ambushed again. Same section commander. Same impossible odds. Same outcome: everyone makes it out.
While rounds cracked past his head, MCpl Frigon stood his ground. Not because he was fearless - because his troops needed him steady. He exposed himself to enemy fire to pinpoint their position. Called the shots. Led the withdrawal.
Zero casualties. Twice.
The weight of those decisions? Unimaginable. The stress of knowing nine families are counting on you to bring their sons and daughters home? Crushing.
But that’s leadership when it matters most.
Medal of Military Valour recipient.
True Canadian hero.

🇨🇦 THE ULTIMATE ACT OF COURAGE 🇨🇦
Caporal Yan Dodier. Remember that name.
November 17, 2007. Zharey District, Afghanistan. Imagine being pinned down for hours—bullets cracking overhead, dust and chaos everywhere, your platoon trapped with no way out. You can’t see the enemy. You don’t know where they’re firing from. Just the terrifying sound of rounds hitting dirt and stone around you.
Now imagine making the conscious decision to stand up and make yourself the target.
That’s exactly what Corporal Dodier of the Royal 22e Régiment did. He deliberately drew enemy fire to his own position so his brothers-in-arms could finally see the muzzle flashes and fight back. Picture that moment—stepping into the crosshairs, every shot meant for you, praying their aim isn’t true, hoping you live long enough for your plan to work.
The ultimate game of chicken. Except the stakes are life and death.
His actions broke the stalemate. His platoon could finally engage the enemy effectively. They made it out because one man decided his brothers’ lives were worth the risk.
For this extraordinary act of selfless courage, Caporal Dodier was awarded the Medal of Military Valour on April 4, 2008.
Heroes aren’t born. They’re forged in moments when everything is on the line and someone chooses to stand up anyway.
