This is a community-wide call out to all adult Mikisew Cree members residing in Fort Chipewyan, Alberta. You are invited to participate in a research study as part of my master's thesis titled Maskihkîy: Mikisew Cree Community Access to Traditional Indigenous Medicines for Health and Well-Being.

As a participant, you will benefit from the research by having the opportunity to share knowledge of Traditional Indigenous Medicine and its use, contribute to the body of Mikiew Cree Traditional Knowledge, contribute to the carrying forward of Traditional Knowledge for future generations, build and strengthen kinship ties and relationships, and share as an act of cultural continuity, revival, and resurgence.

As a member of the Mikisew Cree Nation, I am proud to return to my father Norby Poitras' home community to engage in this sacred work and fulfill a lifelong dream of connecting more deeply with my roots. I will be there for the month of October and seeking to build relationships with my family, community, our culture, and the land. Our women’s sacral healing retreat was a transformative shift into the reclamation of our divine feminine powers of creativity, sensuality, and self-expression.

I have immense gratitude for all of the women who made this day potent and impactful: my fellow facilitator , our beautiful participants, .en_aura our amazing chef who nourished our hearts and bodies, and our gifted photographer who captured the magic you are seeing today.

Next I will be focusing on my master’s thesis. I’ll be heading up north to gather stories about Traditional Mikisew Cree Medicines from our Elders, Medicine People, and Knowledge Keepers. Stay tuned for the journey!

We have space for women who may be interested in our upcoming Women's Sacral Healing Retreat on August 13th, Salt Spring Island.

Along with RiseOf Anima I will be sharing traditional Indigenous perspectives on the energy centers of the body. I will share detailed information about Sacral Chakra balancing through the exploration of physical illness that commonly manifests in this area, with traditional medicinal knowledge and approaches to healing. I will also speak to Indigenous sexuality in relation to coming-of-age rites, initiation ceremonies, and how to build a deeper connection to oneself through the spiritual expression of sexual creativity and power.

My co-facilitator Susan will teach us how to heal our relationship with money, creating abundance in all aspects of our lives, as well as how to open up this energy center of our bodies for attracting anything that we desire while attuning to our ability to feel and experience pleasure.

This retreat is designed as an experiential collective healing involving partner work, group work, ceremony, hypnotherapy, and meditation. All women are welcome, and we look forward to hosting you!

Women’s Moon 🌙

A woman is said to be closest to Creator when she’s on her Moontime and during pregnancy. This is the time to retreat to the Moon Lodge to vision, dream, and be in ceremony. If she can not access a physical Moon Lodge she can go within to be in her internal Moon Lodge. This is the place within her being that honours her bodily rhythms with full awareness, presence, and a seeking to become closer to the Self and Creator.

I welcome and invite you to join RiseOf Anima and me for our next retreat with a focus on Women's Sacral Healing. The retreat will take place on August 13th, 2023 at Beaver Point Hall, Salt Spring Island from 10 am - 5 pm. The investment of $280 includes the full-day experience, whole foods lunch, and a sacred gift.

Our last women's retreat was a ceremonial space for the group to work through the energy centers of the body (chakras) and open them to generate deep healing. We found that the Sacral Chakra was where all of us needed more attention, as experiences of sexual trauma and blockages to our innate creative potential limit our ability to truly feel and access pleasure in all areas of life.

Having experienced sexual abuse and violence, I have been learning how to discover a healthy relationship with my own sexuality and its expression. In this journey, Indigenous teachings of sacred spiritual sexuality have transformed my capacity to heal and use this creative energy for manifesting abundance in my life.

Susan and I will blend Psychic and Indigenous Shamanic Healing Practices to empower women in reconnecting to their creative strength, to open up to the free flow of energy within our bodies. When this part of us is healed and flowing, we are then able to have healthy and balanced relationships, pleasure, and joy, with a deepened ability to trust and reclaim our Divine Femininity.
